Truly...why is it so difficult to report incorrect lyrics?

Solved!

Truly...why is it so difficult to report incorrect lyrics?

A lot of lyrics are incorrect and I read Spotify gets them from Musixmatch which explains a lot. I was listening to 'Dollar Days' from David Bowie's 'Blackstar' and noticed a lot of errors in a song that is a lament on never seeing England/Home again and pretending, "It's nothing to me..." Spotify has "It's nothing to meet" along with many other incorrect lyrics in the same song. As Spotify knows, lyrics are incredibly important to your base or you wouldn't make them available yet I'd rather they not be there at all than be wrong. It's such an easy fix. Everyone wants to help-I've seen the posts, and no one cares if they're paid. Why can't we correct the lyrics ourselves since most would do it out of love, then get someone to proof them?

Hello,

I would like to point out that anyone can modify the lyrics of music if they notice an error, then ask for this modification to be validated.

To do this, simply go to the page of the music you want to modify, you can search with the search function, or use this tool created by a member of the community, using the Spotify API and Musixmatch API.

Once your edit/contribution has been made, you can request help and validation from a member of the community, on the dedicated Community Slack.

If you contribute correctly and follow the guidelines, you can become a Curator and post your changes without needing to have them validated by another user.

Thanks for reading.

Hey @BowieGirl, thanks for reaching out to the Community!

The lyrics that are shown on Spotify are provided by Musixmatch. I recommend reaching out directly to Musixmatch about this since they're the ones who can update the lyrics.

I'll also pass your feedback on to the right folks. You can create a new Idea about this here, and I thank you for sharing your feedback about this.

I'll be here if you need anything else!

I've often found that lyrics sourced from Musixmatch are incorrect. Upon looking up the correct lyrics, it's not uncommon to find several inaccuracies in the lyrics provided by Spotify (sourced from Musixmatch.)

  • Allow the community at-large to submit corrections to lyrics.
    • You'll need to come up with your own verification system. Community-based voting is one approach. Assigning a moderation team of your own is another approach. If neither of those approaches tickles your fancy, come up with your own.
  • Allow the community at-large to submit missing lyrics for songs without lyrics currently provided.
    • See the above sub-bullet.
