Unavailable Track in Spotify’s Stoner Rock playlist

Solved!

Unavailable Track in Spotify’s Stoner Rock playlist

For a few months now, I’ve noticed that “Blue Snow” by Orange Goblin is in Spotify’s Stoner Rock playlist, but is greyed out for me (I live in the USA). The version that Spotify includes in Stoner Rock is from this album:

https://open.spotify.com/album/4EflZcGXhZGptft8fzxwI3?si=dsKIMM1uQnGg_FuPCxXrqA

When I go to this version of Time Travelling Blues by Orange Goblin, most of the tracks are unavailable in the USA, including “Blue Snow.”

However, “Blue Snow” is available for me to listen to in this version of the album, which appears on Orange Goblin’s artist page:

https://open.spotify.com/album/7hhrMCHknQRSshggDg0zAv?si=rd_ifIS2Su6xiJAO55DCaA

When I go to this version of Time Travelling Blues, all the tracks are available, including “Blue Snow,” and have been for several months since I discovered this album on Orange Goblin’s artist page.

So, I was wondering if the unavailable version of “Blue Snow” by Orange Goblin that is included in Spotify’s Stoner Rock playlist is available for Spotify users in other countries besides the USA, and that is why this version is there? And I just happen to live in a country where this version of the song is unavailable?

On the other hand, if the version of “Blue Snow” in Spotify’s Stoner Rock playlist is unavailable in all countries, not just the USA, and the second version that I posted here is available in all countries, then why not include the available version in Stoner Rock?

Thanks!

Hey again @AdamDamon!

Hope that your still keeping well.

It is most likely due to the licencing agreements which you can find out more here which are the reason why the content is available, if a song is greyed out your right it most likely isn't available in your country right now however available in other countries.

It seems that those tracks are known as two different track ID's so they have been uploaded at slightly different times as the first one you list was uploaded by '1998 Rise Above' and the second version was uploaded by 'Rise Above Records' in this case it most likely was a different distributor that the artist has used and they have unfortunately given different licensed in where this can and cannot be accessed.

Personally I'm UK based and I can't access the Second version you shared only the first one.

Checking the Stoner Rock playlist that song seems to have been removed (This playlist was re-curated on the 01-04-2020 ) as I can't find it in that playlist except their song 'Heavy lies the crowns' - Do let me know if that matches what your seeing on the playlist and if not could you drop a screenshot?

In regards to why each different version has be used I wouldn't have that information unfortunately but I can get that feedback passed along.

Best Wishes,

Hi EthanS1,

Thank you; I hope that you’re keeping well as well, and I appreciate your helpful reply. That makes sense that these two releases of Time Travelling Blues were distributed by different companies, such that the licensing agreements regarding where the music can be accessed are different.

“Heavy Lies the Crown” is indeed in Spotify’s Stoner Rock playlist for me as well; and so is “Blue Snow,” although it is greyed out. I’ve attached a screenshot of the playlist from my laptop, where you can see that “Blue Snow” is there. I should mention that I have “Show unavailable songs in playlists” on in my Spotify preferences, though; do you have this setting on in your Spotify preferences as well?

Thank you again for looking into my query. Cheers!

I have the same setting on in order to make sure I give the most accurate information I have! I seem to be missing the particular song which means there could be a region variation here with that playlist however the curators may have used a version which was more open, however I’ll make sure this feedback gets across to the right folks for you!  🙂
