Current workaround: manual rebuild from to /var/lib/snapd/snap/bin/spotify
git clone https://aur.archlinux.org/spotify.git
cd spotify/
makepkg -si
curl -sS https://download.spotify.com/debian/pubkey_6224F9941A8AA6D1.gpg | gpg --import -
I'm running the latest version of Manjaro and have been experiencing the same issue when trying to open Spotify.
I switched from AUR to Snap and that did the trick for a while but now my debug log looks the same as OP's.
The workaround is not working for me so if someone has more ideas of what else to try: please let me know!

My Question or Issue
I have the same issue as these other folks, I am using a Intel Core Xeon X5472 processor.
Could it be that a newer instruction than our systems support is used upon building this software?
This problem persists with the .deb build from the Spotify repository as well as the Flatpak version.
I have also attached the console output in a file as attachment. (With IP addresses left out for privacy reasons.)
Like choozy1, I'm also using a system running on an old processor: 2× Intel® Core™ Duo CPU P7450
I have reverted to the browser-based Spotify for now but it would be awesome if the client could 'just' be adjusted to repair its compatibility to old(er) systems. That is, IF it's indeed a compatibility issue.
same problem here, I'm afraid... using Manjaro on an older machine as well. Here's to hoping that there'll be a fix or at least a reliable workaround soon =\

Ungültiger Maschinenbefehl (Speicherabzug geschrieben)
Hi, I used to run Spotify in a containered archlinux (using distrobox). After updating I get "Illegal instruction" message.
Running on an old AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 945 Processor.
Running Linux Mint 22 Wilma on a not so old mobo and procesor. Same problem here. Tried all the work arounds I could find. I am trying now to find out what changed on my machine in the last 30 days to trigger the "Illegal instruction (core dumped)" because Spotify ran perfect then..
I have same problem in two devices: hp 6930p with t9600 core 2 duo and toshiba l515 with t9300 core 2 duo, is for not AVX instruction? in my toshiba l745 with i5 2450m, spotify runs fine.

I then discovered and installed spotify-client native .deb package. I generated a core dump and inspected it with gdb. The asm opcode where the program halts is unsupported on my cpu. Unfortunately the backtrace lacks information. So it seems that my PC is out of the game at least for the time being.
Browsing this community I found a link to Linux Mint repository with uploads of a working previous release. I could definitely use an official old release though. Back to the music!
Same issue on Garuda (Arch) on an old AMD Phenom II X4 965. I currently pinned version 1.2.45 from AUR, it's the last one that works.
On a recent Fedora laptop Spotify works fine.
On an AMD Phenom II X4 B50 it crashes, on an even older Intel Celeron Ivy Lake CPU (G1610) it works. Will have a look into the dump later.
Couldn't get a hold of 1.2.45, however, the AUR package "spotify-snapstore" also appears to provide an older version - it does work for me, in any case!
Perhaps this can serve as a workaround for some... fingers crossed.
Yessss! That package indeed also works on my good ol' laptop!
Note to self: do NOT update from here (unless the 'normal' package is confirmed to fix the asm opcode incompatibility with older machines 🤞🏼)
