The Ubuntu snap store just updated my Spotify version to 1.2.48.405.gf2c48e6f and the application won't open. Terminal states this error:
ERROR: ld.so: object 'libgtk3-nocsd.so.0' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded (failed to map segment from shared object): ignored.
Gtk-Message: 03:25:59.003: Not loading module "atk-bridge": The functionality is provided by GTK natively. Please try to not load it.
Illegal instruction (core dumped)
I had been using Spotify just a few weeks ago without issue. I'm running Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. Both my desktop systems with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS also experience the same error (app won't open).
Same here - Linux Mint 22 Cin
Any idea which workarounds can be adopted to get the Spotify snap app working again? I tried a few old workarounds mentioned online for similar errors, but they did not help the situation.
I am having the same problem with an Illegal instruction core dump on Linux Mint 21.3 on a couple PCs. Interestingly, Debian 12.8 runs the same Spotify without issue. My solution for Mint is to downgrade Spotify using the package manager or the apt command.
Same problems in Ubuntu 18.04.6 LTS.
Not loading module "atk-bridge": The functionality is provided by GTK natively. Please try to not load it. Bad command (created core file)
Same here on my old DELL Laptop with Intel Grafik.
Linux Mint 22 and Spotify don´t start after Update to version 1.2.48.405.gf2c48e6f.
in Terminal comming Error: libva error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/iHD_drv_video.so init failed
Found nothing in the Web that helps....
I have problems with runing Spotify, after last Ubuntu update. The funny thing is that the same update made Civilization 6 (computer game) to work, which previously did not.
About the game ... the update messed with mesa library and the problem is probably related to the graphic card.
Same here (Linux Mint 22 Cinnamon with Spotify 1:1.2.48.405.gf2c48e6f). I don't know whether the upgrade from LM21 to LM22 or the Spotify update caused the problem. I solved the problem by deinstalling Spotify, manually installing Spotify 1:1.2.37.701.ge66eb7bc and blacklist the Spotify update in the update manager.
Could you list out the steps needed to manually install Spotfly 1:1.2.37.701.ge66eb7bc and blacklist 1.2.48.405.gf2c48e6f in Ubuntu? If you aren't familiar with Ubuntu, how is it done in Mint 22? Maybe its similar. Thanks.
1. Download .deb package from http://packages.linuxmint.com/search.php?keyword=spotify&release=any§ion=any (don't know if the source is legit)
2. Right click on the file -> open with installer
3. Install program (ignore the warning that a newer version is available)
4. Open update manager and add *spotify* to locked packages. As Ubuntu is different, you might better search for an tutorial (e.g. https://www.tecmint.com/disable-lock-blacklist-package-updates-ubuntu-debian-apt/). Maybe turning off automatic updates will help. Otherwise the older version is overwritten by the newest one which doesn't work.
@Talent2025 Thank you for your help! It got us back up and running.
Same issue on Ububtu 24.04. The older client ran fine but the 1.2.48 version just crashes when opening.
I uninstalled the Snap version and installed the .DEB version, but I am still getting the same problem. I purged the Spotify install completely and downloaded an older version of the.DEB file. I used "spotify-client_1.2.8.923.g4f94bf0d_amd64.deb" and it runs fine now.
In Ubuntu, and after installing spotify-client_1.2.8.923.g4f94bf0d_amd64.deb , what exact steps are you using to prevent the snap store from auto updating to later spotify versions? Thanks.
I don't use snap (as I'm on Linux Mint). Maybe you ask in an Ubuntu forum instead (https://askubuntu.com/questions/1407913/how-to-stop-an-individual-snap-from-updating-ubuntu-22-04-lt...).
Maybe chmod 444 on the spotify executable will help.
Talent2025, thanks for your reply. I haven't yet looked into your suggestion or tried downgrading spotify versions. I'm short on time at the moment. My question was more directed towards purple-circle, since he is using Ubuntu and found an old spotify revision that worked.
After you install the .DEB file and confirm it working just tell Ubuntu to hold back the app from updates. You can do that by any of the following. In a terminal run:
sudo echo "spotify-client hold" | dpkg --set-selections
or
sudo apt-mark hold spotify-client
or
If you have the Synaptic package manager installed, find the Spotify client in the installed programs list, hoghlight it then from the main package menu select "Lock version".
Recent old versions of the .DEB files can be found here - http://packages.linuxmint.com/search.php?keyword=spotify&release=any§ion=any
The first file in the list didn't work but "spotify-client_1.2.8.923.g4f94bf0d_amd64.deb" worked fine on Ubuntu 24.04.
A small caveat though with Ubuntu versions later than 20.04, you need to install the gdebi installer tool so you can manually install .DEB files otherwise when you try to run it, it will just open the Software Manager / App Centre and try to install the Snap.
Same problem LM 22
If it is a .deb package or from the application manager, then the application opens for 2-3 seconds, a black screen, then the application closes. If you run from the terminal with the spotify command, then writes in the terminal - an unexpected error; and the application closes.
If set to flatpak, then the application does not open at all. If you open through the terminal with the command - flatpak run com.spotify.Client, then writes an error - Gtk-Message: 18:18: 47.154: Failed to load module "xapp-gtk3-module"
This error is on versions 1: 1.2.48.405.gf2c48e6f and 1.2.50.335.g5e2860a8
So far I have installed the old version - 1.2.37.701.ge66eb7bc.
Please help me figure out why the new versions do not work?
Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I have tried all the versions of Spotify I could find. Included below is the rundown, from newest to oldest. I'm on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. Graphics is NV4B and I'm using the Nouveau drivers. Spotify version 1.1.26.501.gbe11e53b-15 is the most promising if I can get past the proxy setting issue. Or does it need some port forwarding?

The Spotify app opens fine, but when I try to login, it keeps saying my password is incorrect. (Error code: 3)
I try clicking on "LOG IN WITH FACEBOOK" and receive this error:
A firewall may be blocking Spotify. Please update your firewall to allow Spotify. Additonally you could try changing the currently used proxy settings. (Error code:18)
There is a Settings tab in the Spotify Snap. I click on it. The options are:
Proxy type:
Host:_____ Port:_____
User:_____ Pass:_____
Options:
Auto Detect
No Proxy
HTTP
Socks4
Socks5
I click on "No Proxy", then return to login screen. I enter username/password, but still error code: 3.
1.0.72.117.g6bd7cc73-35
(i386)
Gdebi states:
Requires the removal of 2 packages (including KiCAD). Requires the installation of 11 packages. I decide to abort.
Some questions:
Was there a spotify-client version between 1.1.26.501.gbe11e53b-15 and 1.1.72.439.gc253025e ? I noticed how version 1.1.26.501.gbe11e53b-15 did not have the Google Login option, yet, prior to November 2024, I was definitely using a version from the snap store that had the Google Login option.
Do I need to be using the more Ubuntu-tailored installers, rather than the Mint *.deb installers? I'm puzzled why all these *.deb versions do not work.
What does "GPU process isn't usable" mean? I tried running spotify with --no-sandbox, but it didn't change the error.
Is there anyway to resolve the login issue with version 1.1.26.501.gbe11e53b-15 ?
