My Question or Issue

When I am dragging a song in a playlist, I cannot use the scroll wheel to scroll the playlist. This used to work as recently as around a month or two ago, so it's a recent issue.

In addition, dragging a song to the bottom of the window does not scroll it, but it does scroll when you drag to the top. This is significantly less useful than using the scroll wheel, but I thought it'd mention it anyways.

Thanks!

Hi there, @samedson,

Thanks for reaching out to the Spotify Community!

Have you tried disabling Hardware acceleration + restarting the app to see if that does the trick? You can do this from the three dots menu in the top left corner > Help > Troubleshooting. Dragging the song to a different part of the bottom section and moving it around a bit might also help. If you haven't already, try performing a clean reinstall of Spotify by following the steps here.

Something else that's worth checking is if the same behavior occurs on the Web Player.

Keep us posted on this 👍

hi

osx 14.7.2
Spotify für macOS (Apple Silicon) 1.2.53.440.g7b2f582a

i have a black apple mouse with touch surface and successfully scrolled long playlists up and down with the touch area of the mouse, also dragging my tracks to rearrange position worked with the touch area and one finger moves to drag. it was so fast and good ! (probably the scroll wheel with pc mouse)

it completely stopped working in spotify since one month or so, is it my fault?

other than spotify, the mouse works fine.

thanks

Hi there @pescho,

Thanks for reaching out.

This behaviour is quite odd and specific, so let's try and narrow down the possible root cause of it. Could you please test the following:

  • If you use a different mouse with a regular scroll wheel, does it work as intended or does the same issue occur? Please try this out when possible.
  • If possible, test this on another Mac and/or PC and let us know if the same happens.
  • Try turning Hardware Acceleration on and off from the settings and seeing if that has any effect.
  • A clean reinstall is known to resolve a multitude of issues, so it's always worth trying if you haven't already.

With this information, we’d be happy to investigate.

Keep us posted.

"Help others find this answer and click "Accept as Solution"

well , there simply is no button like that 🙂 otherwise i would mark it as solution.

Still having this problem after trying all solutions. This was working just a month or so ago and nothing with my setup has changed. I cannot scroll while dragging. Any other solutions? I am on a Mac running Sonoma.

Hey @pescho @samedson @faxfactsfast

This issue has been fixed in Mac desktop app version 1.2.55 that is rolling out now.

The Spotify Mac app should auto update for you, so just keep an eye out for the update. You can go to Spotify  About Spotify in the menu bar to see your current app version.

Thanks for coming to the Spotify Community to post your feedback.

in my case, spotify did not auto-update (ever, maybe) i have to do it manually.

so the mouse behavior was a software bug. great it works again !

sidenote: there is no  "Accept as Solution" button, or i cannot find it. thanks

@pescho

The Spotify Mac app should auto update every so often. Usually every few weeks. You might not notice it because it auto downloads the update in the background and auto installs it the next time you restart the app. There will be a blue dot next to your user profile picture in the top right corner of the app. That blue dot lets you know an update is available and will ask you to restart the app to install the update.

Sorry for the confusion. The "Accept as Solution" button only shows up for the original poster who posted the thread. It is up to the original poster or Spotify Staff to mark a post as the solution. At one point I think the button showed up for everyone, but it was changed to stop spam clicking of the button for posts that aren't the actual solution.
