Freezing that's only getting worse [OS X 10.9.5]

Spotify (newest update 1.0.64.399.g4637b02a) freezing is getting only worse. I've had the problem for almost a year now. At first it was only with search and front page, I could still access my playlists and this was tolerable since I could still somehow listen to music. 

Now the app freezes really frequently with any desired action. It is getting really incredibly frustrating. I know my laptop isn't the newest one and OS neither (other stuff still works ok and I just reinstalled everything too) but it's completely beyond me how this problem is only getting worse on every update. And as I've read people seem to have same sort of fundamental problems and there's no solution to be found. I'm paying 10 € / month for a service I can't basically use anymore and to which I've strapped myself completely (I have dozens of playlists and everything music-related depends on them).

For anyone with a possible fix, I'd be thankful beyond words if there's something to be done. For Spotify, you run an otherwise phenomenal music service, I really really like the UI and everything, but I can't comprehend how there can be these type of issues.
