I've been having this recurring issue for the last few days. The home page is stuttering and lagging but the moment I go onto any other page that's not the case. It's smooth and working on usual. It's also worth noting it's not occurring on my phone (Android).
Weirdly don't have the permission to upload video but that's pretty much the best explanation I can give.
Solved! Go to Solution.
UPDATE: NEW SPOTIFY UPDATE FIXED IT!!!!
Absolutely buzzing right now. Two months of torture ending finally lol.
Hey @Fireblorb,
Thanks for reaching out!
What I would try in this situation is to first rule out some possible culprits for the described behaviour of the home page.
Let's remove the saved cached data of the app on the device first to see if that would make a difference.
Should the issue remain after this, we could also take things a step further and do a complete clean reinstall of the whole app.
Keep us posted on how things go! We'll be on the lookout 🙂
Hi Vasil, thank you for your response albeit, not a particularly satisfactory solution, quite unfortunately.
I cleared the cache, twice. Removed all the downloads as well. Restarted the app, in the process and that didn't help. If it isn't my imagination, it is very slightly better, but it's still not remotely as close to being as responsive as the other pages.
Reinstalling the app was one of my first troubleshooting steps, that also did not yield any results.
Hi @Fireblorb,
Thanks for the reply. Does this happen on different networks? If you have a VPN, try disabling it, as those can cause a multitude of issues with Spotify.
Hope this helps.
Hi Joan, thanks for your help, unfortunately, I tried both (realistic) networks- 2.4GHz and 5GHz, results did not differ. I do not use a VPN as well...

After last update Spotify Desktop for MAC is UNUSABLE! Scrolling, play/pause, next/previous song - everything looks and feels like on a 20yrs old 1 Hz PC.
I had to search for a solution for half a day... cache clearing, reinstalling, clearing all data, rebooting, clean install 3rd party apps, etc., and nothing worked.
Eventually installing 1.2.26.1187 for Mac from Uptown.com just brought everything back to normal/smooth working.
Dang guys, how did You (Spotify) sc**w up an update so much 😛
BR! 🙂
Hi @Fireblorb,
Thanks for your reply and for trying out our recommendations.
Can you try clearing your hosts file by following the steps in this article? If the issue persists, can you try toggling the option Enable hardware acceleration off to see if that makes any difference?
Also, could you check if this also happens from the Web Player?
Lastly, would you mind sending us a video recording of this behavior? If you don't see the option to upload it, here, you can upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and make it public, so we can visualize it.
We'll keep an eye out for your reply!
Hi @Susan_GP, thanks for following up!
I tried clearing out the host files but to no avail. There was no line with 'Spotify' in it. There's two files, one that I can open and the other is a .equiv, a file format that seemingly no app on the App Store can open, so oh well.
I've always had Hardware Acceleration turned off.
It does not happen on the Web Player, nor on the Android App. I prefer not to use the Web Player because there's no way to view the Recently Played Tracks, as far as I've seen.
I've attached the .mp4 recording of the same below (or above, I don't know where it displays in correspondence to the text lol)
Hi @Fireblorb,
Thanks for the info and the video.
It's worth resetting your preferences by deleting the prefs file located in Spotify's installation folder:
Note that if you had music downloaded for offline listening, you'll have to re-download it, but Your Library will not be affected, so no worries there.
If that doesn't help, could you try logging in with a different account just to check if you have the same issue? If you don't have another account, you could ask a relative or friend to log in and check.
Keep us posted!
Thanks Susan for keeping the patience to continue helping me!
Unfortunately that didn't yield any significant results, but I did encounter a rather random situation. So when I've had my Spotify on Full Screen or Fit to my window (via Rectangle), it's lagging a **bleep** lot. But when I have it in a smaller window, say a half, it's not lagging so much. I have no idea what conclusions can be made from this... but it's something worth noting, I hope!
Hey @Fireblorb,
Thanks for the additional info.
Did you manage to check what happens with a different account? This will help us narrow down the possible cause.
Keep us posted.
Hi, MihailY, the problem persists 😞
Hey there folks,
Thanks for reaching out in this thread!
So that we can investigate this issue further with our teams, could you send us the following details?
Here are the steps depending on your OS version. Make sure that Spotify is closed before running the command (if needed, close all Spotify processes from Task Manager).
Fetching logs via the command line
Mac:
# Run this command in Terminal:
open /Applications/Spotify.app --args --log-file=/Users/"$USER"/spotify.log
Windows Store Client:
Run the below commands in a cmd prompt. You can use WinKey + R and type "cmd" to launch it.
start Spotify.exe --log-file="%USERPROFILE%\Documents\spotify.log"
Windows Non-Store (Web Installer) Client:
start "%APPDATA%\Spotify\Spotify.exe" --log-file="%USERPROFILE%\Documents\spotify.log"
Fetching logs from the standard file paths
Standard path for log files on Mac:
# Run this command in terminal to open the logs directory in Finder
open ~/Library/Caches/com.spotify.client/Logs
Standard path for log files on Windows:
Windows Store Client:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Packages\SpotifyAB.SpotifyMusic_zpdnekdrzrea0\LocalCache\Spotify\Logs
Windows Non-store (Web Installer) Client:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Spotify\Logs
Cheers!
Device: Macbook Air M1, MacOS Sonoma (14.4.1)
Spotify OS Version: Spotify for macOS (Apple Silicon)
1.2.34.783.g923721d9
Both methods to find log files do not yield results. First one just opens Spotify and the second one shows it does not exist.
UPDATE: NEW SPOTIFY UPDATE FIXED IT!!!!
Absolutely buzzing right now. Two months of torture ending finally lol.
right now, it's slow, here is a temporary fix until spotify fixes the issue:
This solves it!
Btw, the issue is not isolated to mac, I experienced it on my Windows 11 Desktop App.
Spotify support people, please stop recommending anything to do with the hosts file, vpns or other unrelated things. I'm a frontend dev and there is literally no way in which a bad hosts file or a network connection could cause this stuttering. The only way this kind of lag can happen is when there's a problem with the rendering or some other optimization problem.
The guy with the video used a simple profiler and literally solved the problem with a 98 line js script, so PLEASE bump the issue up to the developers, the fix exists and so many users will stop having the problem.
