Mac Keyboard media buttons not working after upgrade to High Sierra

I just upgraded to macOS High Sierra. Version 10.13.1 (17B48). 

After the upgrade the media buttons on my keyboard (play/pause, next/previous) stopped working with Spotify. It works in other programs, not just Spotify. 

I've googled but the "solutions" I've found online does not seem to be applied to me. 
Itunes or VLC is not running in the background. 
I don't have Google Play in Chrome (or any other media plugin)
"Spotify Helper" is indeed running in the background. 

Please help. It's very annoying not being able to play/pause the music when at work. Very annoying.

I still have this problem. I haven't solved it.
However, I noticed when it starts (for me). It's when somebody sends me a
spotify link and that link opens the Spotify webplayer. If I restart my
laptop it works again. (at least until a friend sends me another spotify
link).
