New Update is terrible (1.0.4)

New Update is terrible (1.0.4)

The amount of features removed/slowed down in this new update is beyond terrible.  Here is a list of features I noticed removed/slow down so far in this terrible Spotify update.

Removed Local Files features.

  • Can't right click track to edit it's information (Title, Artist, Album etc.)
  • From a windows folder, if a track is set to open automatically with Spotify it does NOT automatically play anymore. It is just added to Local Files.
  • Even after tracks are loaded into Spotify and named correctly the tracks are still grayed out (which usually means it's not on Spotify) when viewing them from the Album/Artist page. Although after double-clicking it the track will still play.

General features removed.

  • Can't search any playlist. (CTRL-F/CMD+F or just a search bar on top)
  • Can't start typing a name of a song then be moved to where that song in located (within that playlist)

Features that used to work but now they're incredibly slow/unusable.

  • Large (1k songs, which isn't even large) playlists take A LOT longer to load, it used to be instant and now it can take several seconds at most.
  • Spotify overall takes longer to start up. Although I will say this has improved within the last and current update but still not as good as previously.
  • When looking at previously played tracks, History, the player becomes unusable, unresponsive and a CPU hog.

There are features that I really like in the new update though, such as the ability to control other Spotify devices and the ability to zoom in and out in the player.

If you have expierced any of the above issues OR any unmentioned issues please comment below and I will edit this post accrodingly

and yes, I have tried re-installing.

P.S: Does the 'New Playlist' button really have to be nearly the size of two playlists and attached to the bottom left?

While I cannot say all of these points apply to me, the CMD+F search function (Mac equivalent of Windows CTRL+F), missing is probably the biggest disappointment to me. I use that function about 90% of the time while being inside the Spotify desktop app... so much easier to figure out if I have a duplicate, or another version of the song I am adding, or just to find a song to play that I really want at that moment in my playlist.

I do hope they come around to fix it soon.

Hope you can update the list to include CMD+F and not just CTRL+F, so that they see that it is not just PC owners complaining about this. Also, I didn't see it, but I hear a lot of people not being able to minimize to system tray while playing music in Windows.

I would like to add it keeps going offline and stops playing randomly and then starts back up.   Also the andoid version started downloading the whole stared tracks to my phone with the free version? Something screwy going on.

This version STILL doesn't show the artist and track name when you hover your mouse over the Spotify icon in the toolbar (Windows 8.1). This was removed a while ago, and hasn't yet been put back.

Adding to features removed:

When adding a new playlist it is no longer possible to add the playlist into a folder as 'New Playlist'. Instead you have to choose 'New Playlist' at the top of the menu and then manualy drag the playlist into the correct folder. Extremely annoying!!!

The preference has been scaled down (some versions ago) and you are no longer able to choose where to put the cache (amongst others). I know you can edit the config file but it's still not as easy as before.

Also changed versions ago: When searching you could sort from the different categories; Songs,Artist, Albums etc.

This no longer is possible. Why? A proper search would give you the option to sort the results in any way based on the categories.

So what are the devs at Spotify up to?  Why don't you follow the old axiom: If it works, don't fix it!!

More bugs that were introduced with 1.0.X

  • You can't unpublish public playlist anymore. The menu always shows a "Make Public" option even though the playlist is already public
  • You can't use the scroll wheel while dragging a song, have fun sorting a playlist with more than 20 tracks.
  • The column sizes in playlists are not resizable
  • Previously we were able to add spacers in the playlist sidebar by naming a playlist "-", this is not working anymore
  • The Zoom In/Out state is not saved and has to be reset after every launch.

Thank you for adding these.

I agree with everything that was mentioned. The reason why I'm here is that "History" slowdown thing, and I wanted to know if I was the only one who experienced it.

Building good software is hard, and I like the overall product, but Spotify updates seem to just accumulate into a big pile of disappointments.

I'll throw in my two cents for kicks 'n' gigs.  Just made a post about it, but at some point in the last few versions, they made it impossible to paste in more than three or four HTTP links to songs at a time.  Prior to the update, that was the only way to actually SHUFFLE an entire playlist - export the songs via the HTTP links, shuffle them using some program, then paste the randomized list back into a new playlist.  No longer possible, meaning no longer can playlists be truly randomized.  QQ

Also the undo function is gone. One accidental press on the delete button in a large playlist and you have no idea, what you just deleted nor will you have any chance of getting the song back.

On the other hand - deleting songs from a playlist sometimes just doesn't work. I have to close the application and open it again, only after that are the songs gone, but sometimes even not then.

Considering the trend of removing features I think Spotify will soon have nothing more than a big PLAY button, that will play songs randomly.

Oops!  I think you forgot the quotation marks.

"Randomly."

Great, finally somehting positive :).

Just installed the latest update and the Undo function is back.
