No sound anymore when changing output device (internal speakers vs. bluetooth) [OSX]

No sound anymore when changing output device (internal speakers vs. bluetooth) [OSX]

Dear,

I'm having issue with my sound from Spotify, when I change the output device on my Macbook (OSX 10.10.2) from internal speakers to my bluetooth audio set for the 2nd time, the sound from Spotify gets lost. Other sounds from my Macbook still work and come from the bluetooth device, but Spotify isn't. It even stays quiet when I return the audio back to my internal speakers. The only solution is to quit Spotify and open it again, but this is off course not as it should work. Can someone help me?

Macbook Pro from 2014 - OSX 10.10.2

Spotify Premium, version 1.0.2.6.g9977a14b

Thanks a lot!

The first step I recommend is to try deleting and reinstalling the app and seeing if that works. If it does not I have a few other ideas that may work

Sorry forgot to mention that, I already did. Also deleted all cache with
CCleaner.

Well first I would try forgetting your speakers from your mac and reconnecting them. IF that does not work I would try restoring your Speakers to factory settings. Also try and see if the same thing happens on other macs.

Hey dude

Well, audio, in the software topic, works just like eletrical wiring.
Every computer (either PC or Mac) routes sound in a way that all the apps are connected to the same end, the same signal. Just like in your home, several wires are tied, in one way or another, to the main central. Then, all the signals are mixed into a single signal, the "Stereo Out", which is the digital information that is converted to voltage to your speakers...

Anyway, audio science apart, that is the drill of the audio driver. Your computer might count with two working at the same time, by the way i.e. bluetooth headphones hearing what iTunes is playing while facebook notifications come alive through the loudspeaker. The problem here is ROUTING. Spotify may be having some issues while routing the signal when there are so much changes... At first there is not much I guess YOU can do about it, I would say this is a problem related to the code of the program. However, something may shed some hope on it: As a PC user I would try to switch my usual, built-in, audio driver for ASIO4ALL. I'm not sure how far is that valid for Mac too, but give it a try. Maybe, the blame is on Spotify itself :l

So, cutting to the chase, try to replace the built-in apple loudspeakers driver for a third-party that will do the same thing. Maybe it have to do with Apple's instead. Otherwise, I hope that people from technical staff might hear about your problem and give you a more precise insight...

Keep it up!

AlexandrePiccin i right about everything he said about the technical things. The one issue with what he said is I do not know if there are any third party drivers out there and they might be hard to find but if you would tell me your computer model and software you are running I can try and find one for you.

Thanks for the compliment tbraun...
Fortunately, he said that his platform is Mac... I'm not that familiar to it but IF there is Asio4all for Mac, I definitively say that you SHOULD GO FOR IT. That is, at least based on my PC experience with it...

Good luck! There should be something related to drivers out there to help you out on this!

Cheers

I have looked and can't fine any. The Mac equivalent for asio4all is CoreAudio and is the same thing but it is already built intto you mac so I don't think you should be having these issues

Same exact problem here, it's been happening for a few weeks now. All other sound via bluetooth works fine.

I've tried both disconnecting and forgetting the bluetooth speaker. Everything has been restarted multiple times and nothing seems to help.

Kind of a pain, it must have been something with their most recent update. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

Guys, I'm pretty sure it is all up to the tech to fix this problems, for this is solely relatable to a problem with spotify itself

Hello,

Same here, OS X 10.10.3 + Bluetooth speaker, when changing device for the 2nd time, spotify keep playing but no sound.

I have to restart spotify. Didn't have the issue with Maveriks a few days ago so I guess it's the combo Yosmite + Spotify.

How can we know if a ticket has been loged for this issue ?

Thanks and Regards

No clue about the ticket, however I found a temperary fix. Pause the music before turning on bluetooth, turn it on and let the device connect, then continue playing the music. No need to restart each time.

Hey everyone,

Welcome to the Community and thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Please confirm these details for us:
1. Your device, operating system and version
2. The Spotify app version

3. The bluetooth device model

We'll pass the information on to the team so they can take a look.

Thanks!

Devices : Macbook Pro 2012 (bluetooth 3) Yosemite 10.10.2 & Macbook Pro 2015 (bluetooth 4) Yosemite 10.10.3

Spotify version : 1.0.3.101.gbfa97dfe

Blutooth device : JBL reflect BT

How to reproduce (when it happens) : pause music, disconnect BT headset, leave for some time (say at least 1 hour), come back, connect BT, hit play : no sound.

Changing sound device from preference to loud speakers or hdmi doesn't help once it's broken but all other sounds play fine.

When broken, if playing, when hitting pause, progress bar jumps back to where it was when play was first pressed.

How to solve : quit and restart spotify

Hey everyone,

Thank you for all the information provided.

We've passed this on to the right team so they can look into it.

We'll keep you updated right here as this progresses.

Thanks!

I'm also experiencing the same thing where, if I plug in my headphones while Spotify is already running on my Macbook Air, it doesn't properly switch devices and sometimes audio from Spotify will play through my speakers regardless of whether I have my headphones plugged in.

The only fix is restarting Spotify, annoyingly enough.

Thanks for reporting this, @munchkin42.

Our tech team is looking into it. We'll keep you posted on this thread.

Happy weekend!

Teresa.
