OS X Client > serious graphic card glitching/artefacting

OS X Client > serious graphic card glitching/artefacting

Description

Everytime I open/use the Spotify OS X desktop client, it causes my video card/signal to glitch out majorly. Usualy white artefacting, which looks as if the video card is about to fail.

What I expected to happen

Click through various GUI items in the Spotify client without it making me worry that it's damaging my video card.

My Operating System

OS X 10.10.3

My Spotify version

1.0.4.90.g0b6df40b

My System

MacPro with D500 video cards

Try killing the 'Spotify Helper EH'. Seems like it worked for a few others.

Okay, so deleting:

  • MacPro/Users/me/Library/Application Support/Spotify/SpotifyWebHelper
  • MacPro/Users/me/Library/LaunchAgents/com.spotify.webhelper.plist

is working so far (~1 hour), so thanks for that. Seems like it's nailed it, as it would normally have gllitched by now.

However deleting those pieces of malware was not trivial. Spotify's client reinstalls them everytime. So you have to delete them, then put a folder / file of the same name in, and lock it. Then restart.

Then problem solved...

But what a silly state of affairs to have to go through all this. What is this piece of malware doing? Is it overheating my very expensive graphics card? Whatever... One shouldn't have to go through this rigmarole, nor reuqire a PhD in Computer Science just to listen to some music on their computer...

Glad it's fixed. Thanks for the tip.

STOP PRESS. Nope, no love. Back with a vengence... Only thing that fixes it long term: uninstall client and all of its tendrils comnpletely...
