Playback settings don't stick

Hi, I'm a new Premium subscriber, using an iMac on High Sierra. The problem I'm having with Spotify is that the Playback settings (crossfade and volume level) do not persist; after quitting/restarting Spotify, those two settings revert to OFF. I've tried deleting Spotify's Preference and Application Support files and signed-in again, but my efforts made no difference, Crossfade and Volume Level do not work, nor persist.

So what's the problem and how do I fix it?
