Premium user can't log in because of error 409

Premium user can't log in because of error 409

Hi, I'm trying to login to my desktop app (on Macbook) and it says I can't login because "App is restricted to premium users only. Error 409." I am on a family premium account that works fine on my phone. How can I get Spotify back on my computer?

Hey there,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

In this case, you might need to check for any local settings on your device that could be blocking the app. In case there's an antivirus software or such that could be restricting access to the app, try whitelisting Spotify.

If the above doesn't do the trick, we'd like to gather some additional info. Would you mind sending us the make/model and OS of the affected device along with the Spotify version you are currently running?

Lastly, did you notice if this started to happen after a specific event such as an OS update? If yes, please send us the details.

Keep us in the loop!

Hello, it is happening to me too, in a regular computer and we did not changed device or have anti virus

thabk you

I have the same problem. Web version works fine but desktop app gives 409 error. I have an Individual Premium plan.

Adding to my message above, I am using Mac OS 10.13.6 and Spotify desktop app version 1.1.27.472.gf6574b97

Update, good news, I just got it working by installing a new version of Spotify.

"Premium users only: Error code 409" happens to me to even though I just installed the recent Linux client with "snap install spotify".

Hey @tomi_kause,

Thanks for posting in the Community.

Does the error occur on a device with a different OS like Windows or MacOS?

Maybe the folks from our dedicated Linux board could offer more advice as we don't officially support the app on Linux.

Hope this clears things a bit,

Cheers!

Had the same here on Ubuntu 22.04 with a premium account. Resolved by uninstalling spotify, removing its config (~/.config/spotify) and reinstalling via snap.

I had this issue after I did a software update on my Mac. I deleted and then reinstalled Spotify and now it's working fine!

Hi I just noticed the same problem. Family premium to. Just made an OS update then I got this problem.

I have Mac OS ventura 13.5.2

This is happening to me too. MacOS Ventura 13.6. Spotify Family Premium.

Hey @Mattayo2,

Thanks for reaching out!

Could you check for any updates for the Spotify app?

If no updates appear, I suggest trying a clean reinstall of the app. A reinstall ensures that you're running the latest version.

Let us know how you get on.
