My Question or Issue

The desktop spotify app opens and loads my playlists, but I cannot search up any artists or load my home page, profile, friend activity etc. It shows the error message "Something went wrong". I've tried clearing my cache and reinstalling the app several times. The web player also does not load for me but the app works fine on my phone.

Hi,

I realized I had turned on a web proxy on my computer and resolved the issue by turning it off.

Thanks for your help!

Hi @condy1,

Thanks for your post here in the Community and welcome!

Great troubleshooting so far! In this case, we'd recommend checking your Hosts file by following the steps here. Additionally, could you try using a different Internet connection? If you don't have any available, you could create a hotspot network from your mobile device and use it to check.

On another note, we understand you already reinstalled the app, however, it's best to perform a clean reinstall with the steps here.

Lastly, you can also try disabling hardware acceleration from Help > Troubleshooting > Disable hardware acceleration and restart.

Let us know how that goes!

Hi,

I tried the web player on safari and it loaded for me there so it seems to be an issue with chrome for the web player.

I performed a clean reinstall from safari browser and it still gives the same error in the desktop app. I also tried disabling hardware acceleration but still no luck.

Hi @condy1

Thank you for the swift response!

Does this also happen on other devices? Could you check on another computer to see if the same thing will happen when you are logged into your account. Also could you try logging in to another account on your affected device to see if the same will occur. You can ask a friend or family member to try with their account, and if not you can make a new free account very easily.

Could you send us a screen recording of how things look on your end, that way we could better be able to help.  And also please attach your current Spotify version you are running.

We'll be on the lookout.

Hi there, my name is David and new to the community.

My current favourite track is Tennessee Whiskey by Chris Stapleton, however my taste is very eclectic.

I am having problems getting the desktop app for my MacBook to authorise, the web app works and the iPhone app works.

Any help gratefully received.

Hey @DavidRockyThomas

Welcome to the Community! Thank you for reaching out.

By the way you phrased your post, do you mean that you cannot log in to your account on the Mac Desktop app? Or does it behave the same way the original poster here described their issue?

If indeed you are unable to access the same profile, we would suggest resetting your password, for which you can find more info on here.

If not, please let us know what your issue is and we will help gladly.

Cheers.
