Spotify Mac app won't play the song I want to hear. It gives out "can't play this right now" error.

Spotify Mac app won't play the song I want to hear. It gives out "can't play this right now" error.

I tried to clear app cache, force restarted app, restarted my Macbook Air but it still wouldn't play the song. Any ideas why?

Hey there @coldone_2024,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

We hope you don't mind us moving your post out of the Chat boards to one of our Help boards as it fits better here.

For this type of error, we’d recommend:

  • Performing a clean reinstall of the app on the affected device. By doing that the app can be up-to-date and you can make sure the remaining stored cache is not leading to this issue. You can see the steps for a clean reinstall here.
  • Restarting the sound controller. To do it, open Finder and navigate to Applications > Utilities. Start Activity Monitor. Locate coreaudiod in the list of processes. Select it and click X next to it to end it. After ending the process, it should start automatically.

If the above doesn’t do the trick, we’d like to gather some additional info. Please send us:

  • Were you using the Connect feature when this happened?
  • The make/model and OS of the affected device.
  • The exact Spotify version you’re running there.

Keep us in the loop!
