I keep getting "You can’t open the application “Spotify” because PowerPC applications are no longer supported." error message on my macbook pro when I try to open the app. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app, but the issue continues. Everything is up to date on my computer so I first assumed that Spotify just needed to updated their desktop app when Apple came out with the new system update. It's been months now and nothing has changed.

Hi, welcome to the community!
Try following these steps:
First you have to remove all spotify apps via finder, delete, empty trash.
Then download and install
http://download.spotify.com/Spotify.dmg
Let me know if it works!
Yes, that is a good workaround. Only type this in your terminal:
/Applications/Spotify.app/Contents/MacOS/Spotify

Same here, did not help. Anyone got a solution?
I have this issue too. Yesterday night all was well. Played songs until sun came up again.
iMac computer was never shut down, now this afternoon: "You can’t open the application “Spotify.app” because PowerPC applications are no longer supported"..... I didn't even turn of the machine in the meantime. So must be something on Spotify side.
Downloading again or the suggested dmg does not solve the problem!
This solution does not work on my computer. 2009 macbook running with 6 GB memory and running the most current version of El Capitan, 10.11.6. Odd that I have been running this operating system for many months and Spotify just stopped working now.
Is it somthing else, like an update of JAVA or Flash?
same here.. i do everything,i cant run app..
deleted everything and trashed the bin... new install but still error message: "You can’t open the application “Spotify” because PowerPC applications are no longer supported."
installer version 1.0.34.146.g28f9eda2
I can get it running with this workaround.... If I open the package and run the Unix exec in /Applications/Spotify.app/Contents/MacOS/Spotify
Yes, that is a good workaround. Only type this in your terminal:
/Applications/Spotify.app/Contents/MacOS/Spotify
Same issue here...
