Spotify increasingly slow on iMac app and on internet

Solved!

Spotify increasingly slow on iMac app and on internet

I have a premium plan. I live in Japan. I am using an iMac (2017), Ventura 13.6.7.

My Question or Issue

When I attempt to access Spotify from the Internet (https://open.spotify.com/), the first thing that pops up is a screen that says: "Something's wrong! Search for something else."

I haven't searched for anything. I'm just opening the program (or trying to). It then "opens" and I can search for things. When I find something I want to hear, I click on the song I want to hear, it shows the song and the attached image and absolutely nothing happens. I can't click on anything because nothing moves. I reload the page and then sometimes it plays the song.

Of what value is this to me? Why am I paying for this service?

Then if I go into my applications and I open the actual Spotify app, I am greeted with a black page and some message about not loading and I can stay or exit.

Neither of these are acceptable. I am paying for a service that I cannot use, and yet, as a musician, songwriter, producer and filmmaker, I need to access content. Even writing this letter, it won't let me go to the next paragraph. So, I'm at a loss and do not know how to fix this. Any advice from the community would be appreciated.

Hey there @DavidHalChester,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

In this case, we'd suggest you try the following:

  • Try clearing your host files. You can do it by following these steps.
  • Perform a clean reinstall of the desktop app. By doing that the app can be up-to-date and you can make sure the cache is not leading to this inconvenience. You can see the steps for a clean reinstall here.

If this should persist after trying the above, we'd like to gather some additional info:

  • Please send us the exact Spotify version you're running there.
  • Is this happening over WiFi? Ethernet? Both? If possible, you can create a hotspot on a phone and connect your computer to it, to see if you notice any difference.

Keep us in the loop!

I don't know who took the time to respond to this, but I really, really
appreciate it. It's so rare when major app companies get back to their
users.

I will follow the steps you suggest and if I don't see progress, I'll
follow the next suggestions you offered. Thank you!

I had to do a clean install, and finally it worked again. Thank you for your help.

I have a premium plan. I'm located in Tokyo, Japan. I'm using Spotify on my (Mac) desktop, OS 13.6. 9.

My Question or Issue

Whenever I open Spotify on my desktop, I consistently get "Something went wrong." This does not prevent me from using the program, but it's really irritating to see that every single time. I did have an issue where the program was slowing down and taking eons to do anything. I emptied the cache and reinstalled it and that solved that problem (based on advice I found here on the community boards). But that was just a few weeks ago. So, how can I get rid of "Something went wrong"??? Thank you in advance.

Hello again @DavidHalChester,

Thanks for reaching out!

Since you've already created a thread about this issue, we've gone ahead and merged the new one here to keep better track of the situation and investigate further.

Would you mind taking another look at @AlejaR's post here and let us know if the same thing continues to happen with another internet connection? What about the Web Player on your iMac?

Hope to hear from you soon 🙂

Thank you; I'm glad you merged it with the other thread. I had no idea how
to find that. I will try the steps tomorrow and let you know if they work.
Thank you! 🙂

Hi, I am having this problem too. I followed all of the above steps, but nothing seems to be working to fix the application.

Hey folks,

Thanks for your replies.

@DavidHalChester, have you had the chance to try the abovementioned steps?

@loltfemma, to avoid confusion since multiple issues have been described in this thread (general slowness and a "Something went wrong" error message), can you let us know exactly what you're experiencing on your end and the steps to reproduce it? Also, send us your device model, OS version and Spotify version along with a short video of the issue. If the file is too large to attach, you can upload it to Google Drive (make sure to allow general access to the file) or as an unlisted YouTube video.

It would also be helpful to let us know what happened when using the web player and a different internet connection.

We'll be on the lookout for your responses.
