playing spotify through headphone and sonos

Hi

I play music from spotify on my laptop which is connected to my sound system using the headphone jack.

I recently bought a sonos play to allow the same music to be streamed to the kitchen; however, as soon as i connect to the sonos, the music cuts out on the headphone output. Feels like there is a really obvious solution that im missing.

How can i connect to the sonos without disconnecting from the headphone?

Unfortunately, each spotify account can only be listened to from one device at a time. Since the Sonos appears as another device, it will pause audio on all other devices connected to your account.

You could download the playlists on your mac and then place it in offline mode. The two devices wouldn't be synced together, but that is the only way that you could listen on two devices at once since you can only ever have one active streaming device at a time.

wow, totally baffling. i suppose my next question would be, why?

what would be the reason for being so specific about how i listen to something at home?

sure the answer, naturally, is money; but i'm scratching my head thinking how, by listening to music in 2 rooms, rather than 1, that i'm i'm somehow doing Spotify out of revenue?

All Spotify Premium accounts are restricted to one streaming device, this just ensures that one account isn't being used by multiple people. Streaming to two devices at the same time also presents a technical issue: syncing media streams isn't simple. If it were a functino supported by spotify, it is likely that the streams would have a delay between them, something that couldn't be fixed without dedicated equipment. So Spotify resulted to the "Connect" feature allowing you to control devices attatched to your account, but not stream in more than one place at a time.
