Automatic download of all of a podcast's episodes

Automatic download of all of a podcast's episodes

My Question or Issue

I want to have Spotify download all episodes of selected podcasts. Is this possible?

If it is not, I will have to keep using the otherwise absolutely awful app iTunes for Windows, or some other app. I am trying to transition away from iTunes to Spotify.

I only want automatic download on my Windows pc, not on my phone app.

The goal is to make sure that I have all episodes of selected podcasts in the case where the podcast and its episodes disappear from the internet, so the episodes can never be found again.

Hi there @somedanishguy,

Thanks for reaching out. We'll gladly help you out with managing your favourite podcasts.

For the time being, the automatic download of podcast episodes and downloading podcasts in general is only available on the mobile app. If this is something that you'd be interested in seeing on desktop, consider checking out the Ideas section

However, we'd also like to clear some possible misunderstanding regarding the way downloads work. The contents on Spotify, be it music, podcasts or audiobooks, can only be played within the Spotify app itself. When you download them, you don't get a file that can be moved around and saved, the app just caches the downloaded content so that you can play it back later on that specific device without needing an internet connection. You need to go online at least once every 30 days in order for the downloads to remain functional.

Regarding your concerns about content becoming unavailable, downloading it within the app unfortunately doesn't make a difference here. As previously mentioned, you need to go online at least once per month to keep the downloads valid, so if something becomes unavailable in the meantime, then it will apply to you too, even if you have it downloaded.

We understand your concern and rest assured that Spotify would like to make all the world's content available, but this availability can vary over time and between countries, depending on the permissions from rights holders.

Hope this clears things up.
