Desktop app will be unable to fulfill any network requests after hours of inactivity

Desktop app will be unable to fulfill any network requests after hours of inactivity

Spotify for Windows (64 bit)
1.2.26.1187.g36b715a1

About once a day I have to restart Spotify because I'm unable to search or select any album, artist, or playlist that isn't cached. The app will act like it's loading but every request always ends up timing out. My computer is always connected to the same network via. LAN cable. I have proxy settings set to autodetect.

It may be because I put my computer in sleep mode, so my Spotify client isn't able to talk with Spotify servers every so often and the session expires

For whatever reason there's no refresh functionality so I can't just fix it by pressing Ctrl+R; I have to actually close and re-open the app.

I have the same issue, I need to restart spotify on my PC once a day.

Hi @ewangreen4 and @phishie

I'd recommend clearing your Hosts File. Please follow these instructions.

It also appears that your Spotify client is out of date. The newest version is Spotify for Windows (64 bit) 1.2.29.605.g66a43ceb

Please be sure to update your client.

Please let me know if you continue to have issues!

Hi,
The same thing is happening to me.
In my case it started happening like this about a month or so ago, before that I did not have this problem.
I tried a clean installation, but after a few days the problem returned.
I am currently on 1.2.30.1135.g02fef27a

I am able to browse through my playlist and play them, but when I use search or want to go to a specific artist, I get an error:

Valdri_0-1707242238674.png

There was an error when loading a contractor profile.
Look for something else?

Sure, I'll give that a shot. Expect an update soon

Okay. My hosts file didn't contain any relevant entries. I have Spotify installed through the Microsoft Store which is supposed to automatically update it, I have no idea why it hasn't been.

Hey folks,

Thanks for the info and welcome to the Community!

@ewangreen4 we recommend giving the app a clean reinstall with the steps here and then to download Spotify from our website if you're currently using the version from the MS store. Keep in mind that they can have different behavior as they're downloaded from a different place and when you're reinstalling the current version, this should also help get rid of any corrupted cache or broken files on your computer.

@phishie and @Valdri we recommend that you also reinstall the app and to try with the version you're not currently using (from our website or the MS store) and @Valdri it'd be great if you could let us know what the error message you're seeing is about.

Let us also know if you've tried any other troubleshooting steps so far, so that we can avoid repeating them.

Thanks and we'll be on the lookout 🙂

For what it's worth updating didn't have an effect on the issue. I will try the version from the website

Issue persists on version 1.2.30.1135.g02fef27a (from the installer)

Hey @ewangreen4,

Thank you for keeping in contact and for the shared info.

If the issue persists after the reinstall process, it could be related to hardware acceleration. In this case, would you mind checking if turning the Hardware acceleration ON/OFF in your app settings makes any difference?

On another note, could you confirm if you're using a personal PC or if it's a PC from work, and if you're using any VPN? This will give us a better look at the issue.

We'll be on the lookout.

This is my personal PC (R9 7900X/1070TI/64GB mem., not enrolled in any network or power policies). I am also not routing my traffic through a VPN.

Hardware acceleration shouldn't be the issue, but I will try it for the sake of science.

Also happens with hardware acceleration disabled

Appreciate the cooperation, @ewangreen4!

There seems to currently be another thread here which sounds kind of similar to the issue you're describing.  Could you take a look there and let us know if it sounds like what you're experiencing?

Keep us posted 🙂
