Desktop clear queue button disappeared?!

Solved!

Desktop clear queue button disappeared?!

My 'clear queue' button has disappeared on desktop – I've updated to the latest version of Spotify. Autoplay is off and I've tried to restart the app. It's a bit frustrating to keep having to skip/change songs with the queue still going every time!

Any ideas? Thanks.

Hey there @jasonmw1217,

Thanks for reaching out about this here in the Community.

Keep in mind that the clear queue button appears when you actually add items to the queue (next in queue), and not when what's showing is the list of content that will be played next based on what you're currently listening to (next from: or next up), as shown in the screenshot.

If you don't want new music to keep playing after the playlist you selected ends, you can turn the Autoplay option off. For more info, take a look at this article.

Hey @DNaga,

Thanks for posting in the Community.

There should be a button to clear the queue. Do you mind sharing the version number of the app you've installed and posting a screenshot of how the queue looks on your end? This way we can make sure, that it's not "Next from:" we're talking about, but the queue itself.

Keep us posted,

Cheers!

Hi Eni.  Thanks for the help.  The queue vs. next isn't necessarily intuitive, so you helped clarify that.  I must be overlooking it, but how do I select "accept as solution"?  I don't see that under any of the "drop down" options or as a button anywhere on the page.

Hey @jasonmw1217,

Setting autoplay to off doesn't solve the issue of you not being able to clear queue if you're playing in a radio or playlist.

really should be able to clear entire queue, not just stuff you've added. frustrating when I'm trying to just listen to one song but an entire (unrelated) playlist from a few days ago is still queued. i don't have the time--or lack of frustration--to manually un-add over 100 songs just because this app is stupidly designed.

Hey @eliothemoth!

In the desktop app, select the first song in the queue > hold the Shift key on your keyboard > select the last song, then right-click > Remove from queue (or press the Backspace key on your keyboard) to clear any section the queue.

If you're interested in other keyboard shortcuts/functionalities, press Ctrl + / in the app to get a full list of all possible combinations.

Cheers!

With a long queue in desktop app CTRL + A does not select all queued. Hidden items in queue appears and those have to be deleted over and over batch by batch. Please re add Clear Queue button.

This works if you have fewer than 81 songs in your queue. Otherwise you have to do this multiple times 😞

This!!! I want to be able to clear the entire queue without turning off the repeat function. I'd also like to create my own custom queue but the only way to do that is to create another playlist. I can't just make up a random queue in the spur of the moment. For this purpose I actually created a new playlist which I named queue.

The clear queue issue, and not being able to use Shuffle without getting a ton of unwanted music (even with autoplay turned off) are going to be the things that makes me quit Spotify.
None of the options mentioned here work... CTRL A does not select all in the queue. The clear queue button only clears the last song added?! This is the most limiting software. I'm guessing this is a large corporation, can usually tell when it's designed by a corporation, not by anyone with passion for the project.

When I have a playlist in my queue, CTRL-A selects all the songs in the playlist, not the queue. I assume that clicking Delete would delete my playlist contents, so I'm not going to try that.

Really? I can't just clear the entire Queue with one action? How could such a basic function not be available? Does this have something to do with Spotify's business model? Do they somehow make more money by putting users into this prison? Idiocy or greed, it's one or the other.

Being completely real.

It is a year later and here I am.

Why is the windows app such garbage. Where, is the clear queue. Why, is there an endless list of Up Next. Absolute, unadulterated garbage there are tons of threads newer than this as well. Seriously can we take the L and admit in UX that this sucks eggs and change it, or.. seriously. i want to GIVE you my money. A product never screamed PAY ME so loud, yet had so many stupid issues.

Why was this answer accepted by anyone as a "solution"? 🤣🤣🤣

It's not even an workaround. All it's saying is telling us to deal with it because we're not changing anything.

It's similar to the reason why social media platforms have moved towards video. It keeps you engaged for a much longer time. If you're on Spotify, and the music is continuously playing, especially if you enable the option to "keep playing after my music is over" they can keep playing stuff you *might* like and keep you interested. For non-premium subscribers it sucks because you have to pay just to have the most basic level of control over your music listening experience. It's a shady practice, but it's definitely part of their business model.

Same here! This is ridiculous! Spotify keeps jumping out of my playlists into that stupid queue.
