My Question or Issue

Discord wont display my listening activity from my desktop. When i try to play music on my spotify on my pc which i have the app downloaded, it doesnt show up like it normally does and should on my discord. ive tried reinstalling spotify signing out, unlinking it to my discord, even the apps section and im still having this issue. Also for putting it as activity status that just says "Playing Spotify" instead of "Listening to Spotify" But when i play spotify on the web browser or on my Phone and iPad it shows up and for some reason is letting me listen on one of those at the same time as my desktop. Ive tried almost everything i even tried opening the hosts file thing.

please if theres anyway to fix this besides what ive listed i need to know its getting on my nerves that i cant figure out why its doing this.

Hey @Tavilz_,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community and welcome!

We understand you’ve already tried some troubleshooting steps including reinstalling. However, we’d like to suggest a clean reinstall as this is more thorough than a regular one and can be helpful to get rid of any cache that might be causing trouble. This is often an overlooked step, but it can be helpful. We’d also suggest downloading the app again, but from the Microsoft Store.

If the issue persists, it's worth disconnecting again your Spotify and Discord accounts from your apps page. You can find the steps here. After that, you’ll need to reconnect the accounts by following the steps in this article.

Hope this helps. Keep us posted on how it goes.

Thanks for the solutions, but I've tried them now and they didn't work.

Hey @Tavilz_,

Thank you for keeping us in the loop.

After reconnecting the accounts, Spotify needs to be under “Added games” in your Discord to properly show the activity. If it is not there, you’ll need to add it.

First, click on the Discord settings and go to ACTIVITY SETTINGS > Activity Status. Make sure that the option “Display current activity as a status message” is active and add the Spotify app to your ADDED GAMES with the option "Add it!". This should do the trick.

If the issue persists, could you let us know if it started after an update of either of the apps or your OS?

We’ll be on the lookout for your next response.

Hi there @Tavilz_,

Thank you for your reply and confirmation.

Can you reinstall both Discord and Spotify? After that we suggest that you do the following to see if the issue persists:

  1. Open Discord settings through the cog in the bottom left of the application
  2. Click User Settings > Connections and look for the Spotify logo
  3. Click Login to Spotify and allow access for your account’s connection to Discord
  4. Once connected, you'll see a confirmation in the browser and in the Connections tab of Discord Settings

Let us know how it goes 🙂

Take care!

Live, love, laugh and listen to music 🙂

Sorry for the response delay, i just tried this and it didn't work. thanks for trying though!

Hey @Tavilz_,

Thanks for the reply.

One more thing you can try out is to connect your PC to a different network. You can create a mobile hotspot from your phone and try connecting to that.

There have been reports by other users experiencing similar issues, saying that a different network connection helps. Especially if you're using a company/ school network or computer, or using a VPN.

Keep us posted on how you get on.

Hello I know this is a bit old, but I've been having the same issue as you and I've tried everything under the sun to fix it; were you ever able to solve the problem? Or maybe it resolved itself?

Hey @cowgoblin,

Thanks for getting in touch about this here in the Community.

It looks like the folks at Discord are aware of this happening and they're looking into it. Head here for more info.

Hello. I would also like to say that I have attempted all options above, and have had zero success. The only way to have it properly display on discord, is to not use the (Windows 10 in my case) desktop app playing. My Android Phone app, the firefox browser, and my google home apps will all properly work with spotifuggle connect. This is a recent issue which has seemed to be a direct cause from upgrading to version 1.1.94.870.gf994cb0b on Spotify for Windows.

Oh wow, I feel like an **bleep**. If anyone is still having trouble with this, make sure your antivirus has the VPN turned off (or Nord VPN, whatever you're using). I recently turned mine on and only just realized that it stops it from displaying in discord. I just went to my McAffee and switched the VPN off. Started working again right away. I know this won't help all of you, but it might help some.

I don't use a VPN and this still doesn't work

Having the same problem on newest build of Spotify desktop on Windows, tried everything (restarting, reinstalling, reconnecting Spotify to Discord account).  This is ridiculous, why do I even pay for this anymore?

Hey @BadMusicTaste1,

Thanks for reaching out.

Can you please let us know your OS and Spotify version and the troubleshooting steps you've tried so far?

Keep us posted.

Spotify for Windows
1.2.7.1277.g2b3ce637

Windows 10 Pro

OS Build 19045.2728

also tried every solution under the sun like everyone else here, still nothing works, discord listen along, discord activity and neither the connect functionality either, for example my phone or my pc or other devices dont see each other anymore even on same network. This hasn't been fixed for years for me, it really needs to be sorted.

Hi @lewiselement

Thanks for the reply. We've relayed this info to the appropriate team. Hopefully a fix can be made soon but be advised that we cannot promise when or if this can be implemented.

If there's anything else we can do for you, let us know.

am having problems and l cntacts to discord and told me that is and API issue and l did all the steps and nothing 😞 suffering for 2 years and is works on mobile and browser

I know it's been two years, but here's the solution!

First, you need to uninstall Discord.( First try  not uninstalling )

Before uninstalling, unlink your Spotify account by going to Discord Settings > Connections Click the X and confirm it.

Then, install Discord and sign in, then return to Discord Settings and link your Spotify account again. The same way you did the unlink account.

If you've already logged in, your browser should recognize and log you in immediately.

When adding Spotify to a registered game, the action will be represented as "Playing" rather than "Listening."

So don't do it.

I hope this helps you.

Thanks.
