This is also happening to me and I have no clue why. It really only started today. Please help!

The exact same thing is happening to me too.. I have an MSI Katana A17 and when I open Spotify the keyboard lights shut off and when I exit out of it they come back on.

Mine fixed today. I've had a windows update or two since a couple days ago and a graphics driver update(not sure if this has anything to do with it). So I guess maybe they fixed it? Not sure. Let me know if yours is fixed!

Mine fixed but it started doing it again. I hope that doesn’t happen to you.

Nope. Mine broke again. Right back to not working, so annoying.

Hey there folks,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

In this case, we think there are some further steps you can try. We'd suggest you make sure the option Show desktop overlay when using media keys is enabled. You can find it by going to the settings on the desktop app, under Display. After that, reload the app by pressing Ctrl + Shift +R or by going to the three-dot menu at the top-left> Help> Troubleshooting> Reload.

If the above doesn't do the trick, we'd suggest trying running the app in Safe Mode with Networking to rule out any issues with your default Windows settings and basic device drivers.

If this should persist afterwards, please send us some further details:

This didn't work and was already enabled. It definitely has something to do with windows & Spotify because I've had an update since then that broke it again. I don't know if it's MSI laptops only.. but there is a clear issue here. It's almost as if they keep rolling out updates that fix it, and then new updates that break it again.

It does not happen on the web app, only the desktop app.
Running version: Spotify for Windows (64 bit)

Hey @Azayll,

Thanks for your reply.

Can you please check if this happens with both versions of the app (the one from Microsoft Store and the one from our website)? Also, can you try reaching out to MSI support in case this is a known issue on their end? They might be able to provide some more troubleshooting steps to try.

Keep us posted.

Hey, back again. This does happen with both versions of Spotify. I just downloaded the one directly from you guys' website and it's happening as well.

This is the version Spotify for Windows (64 bit)
1.2.58.498.g6afe77b7

This is truly the only article I've found online after googling profusely and searching thoroughly. Haven't found anything on MSI's website, haven't found anything on reddit. Maybe it is a good idea to reach out to them though.

You really are right when saying it's happening with MSI laptops ... it's still happening with me on my MSI laptop. The keyboard light is shutting off when I open Spotify and only turns back on when I exit Spotify ... you're not alone

Hey @Gabriel9292,

Welcome to the Community and thank you for joining the conversation.

We appreciate your report about this as well. To continue investigating this one our end with internal teams, would you mind including on your next response the OS version of your laptop, along with the Spotify version you're currently running.

Also, and if possible; could any of you record a short video where we can take a better look? You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. You can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).

We'll be on the lookout.

Hey. Here's the information you asked for. Let me know if I missed anything.

Version:
Spotify for Windows (64 bit)

Sorry I didn't have internet for the past days ^^"

It happens with both versions of Spotify, it only work when Spotify is opened in my web browser, I've tried to reach MSI's support too but got no response

Very very frustrating. I made a thread over there on the MSI support page & they replied something about the AI centre but I haven't changed ANYTHING to do with that since I got my laptop.. So I'm not sure what the issue is.

Could this possibly be related to Windows Dynamic Lighting? A while back Windows added support to control the lighting on some devices directly via Windows.

Personally I haven't used it even though I own numerous devices with lights, so just for the sake of preventing possible issues I've disabled it.
It can be found in Windows settings by looking for Dynamic Lighting. It's under Personalization.

OS: 64-bit Windows 7 Professional

Hi there folks,

Thanks for all the replies.

If possible, can you try force closing the MSI control software from Task Manager and see if this alters the behaviour. Also try toggling the lighting via keyboard shortcuts and see if that affects things.

Also, thank you @TML for the suggestion, that's also definitely worth a shot.

Let us know how it goes and keep us posted if you get any updates from our colleagues at MSI.

Cheers!
