Main site defaulting to German

Solved!

Main site defaulting to German

I live in the US. I don't use a proxy. My account location says United States. My language in the program and app is set to English. Despite ALL of this, http://www.spotify.com/ still redirects to .com/de/ against my best efforts to prevent it.

I can't even subscribe; Every time I try, my account page ends up displaying in German... But this only happens on my desktop browser - My app/program setting is still English. All the fixes I've seen simply say "set your default language to English." Well it is, and the main site still displays in German (or maybe it's Dutch? I honestly can't tell) for me. Deactivating Ghostery and uBlock Origin doesn't help either. Even when I manually enter the site as https://www.spotify.com/en it will still automatically redirect me to https://www.spotify.com/de/

Again, I'm NOT using a VPN. I'm NOT in Germany. My default language IS set to English. My account's location IS set to USA. I'll attach a screenshot of both my account's language setting, and the main site side by side.

Hi Guys,

I had the same issue and was able to solve it by going into the developers console on chrome and clearing data for the website.

Then remove /de in the URL and refresh.

I believe this might come from when you login through an external app to allow access to your spotify data.
As of knowing which one it is, that's another issue....

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Christophe

Hey @Mic_Check, no fun. You can review and augment your country settings by following instructions here. Good luck!

My country is ALREADY set to USA. You can see it in the screenshot I originally posted.

Also, that link you posted is also in German for me, so it's not very helpful. I got the general gist, but again, my country is already set to the United States. It still continues to default to spotify.com/de/ regardless of my country. You can see that in my screenshot as well - The URL clearly shows /de/ in the URL bar, right above the Country option in my account settings.

Gotcha. Have you tried a reinstall?

I have the same problem... a reinstall wouldn't work, as I'm talking about the website.  It is german, as well.  I went there to look at premium prices/information, but it's in german and in euros.  So...

I'm having the same issue.

But not being familiar with code, I can't find what you're talking about.

Can you give more details?

Thanks.

Hey @NealF2,

Thanks posting here in the Community! We'll gladly help you out.

Sometimes data in your browser can cause such behavior. An easy way to avoid this is using a private or incognito browser window. This page has all the instructions on how to open one. Alternatively you can clear the cache and cookies of your browser or use a different one.

If the issue persists after that, it would be really helpful if you could include a screenshot of the country settings in your account overview page. Just make sure that there's no private/sensitive info displayed.

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get on.

Have a great day!

I was like, let's give it another chance to spotify, since they announce they will bring hi fi audio (although could be one month or 10 years) and all is on German, this should be a sign... going back to YT Music.
