Playing on Phone and Computer at the same time

Playing on Phone and Computer at the same time

Why does my computer and cellphone link when I am playing on my computer. Is this using up my data on my phone while I am trying to just listen through my computer. How do I stop them from both linking and concurrently playing at the same time. I usually listen on computer while at work and then switch to my phone while I'm in the car. How do I stop them both from playing at the same time it is using up my data. Please help!

This is related to the Spotify Connect feature. It automatically shows what you're listening to on one device and let's you control it from another. If you're playing music on the computer, your phone is just acting as a remote. The Connect feature shouldn't kick in on your phone unless you have opened it recently. If you're not connected to WiFi and worried about using up any data, you can always force quit the app, and that should stop it too. Aside from that, there isn't a way to manually disable Connect altogether.

ok so it is just showing what I am playing.. it's not actually using data on my phone is my main concern? When I try to listen to it in my car it asks me if I want to start playing on my phone and then I select the phone and I can now use it on my phone. This was just a concern of mine.

Thanks!

Exactly. I mean, say someone was playing Spotify from your computer, and you were in the car and opened up your app there. Of course, it's going to use some data to be able to show you what's playing on the other device and to let you switch to playing from the phone without losing the playlist, album, etc., but this isn't something that is just constantly running as long as you don't have Spotify open. That said, I don't know how much data would be used if you actually tried to maintain a connection between devices when away from the computer, but that would be a really unusual circumstance. Hope that cleared it up.

Hi, i've been searching for this thread... hard to find!

I have found when using spotify on my computer and i accidentally have spotify open on my phone it uses the same amount of data as if i were streaming to the phone. I can't see a way to stop this other than force quit.

Just wanted to point out that if you see connect on your mobile device then it is using loads of data. Hit my 38MB daily limit in a couple of minutes. luckily i was prompted.

Hello!  I'm also experiencing this.  Even when I don't listen to spotify in my car, I get to work, start it up on the desktop, and spotify will pop up on my phone screen.  I make sure to close the "tasks" each time I notice it, but how can I make it not pop up in the first place?  If I force stop, will it just stop using data until I open it again?  That's extremely time-consuming if so, and is good reason to not use spotify at all!

This happens to me all of the time! I usually just make sure Spotify is closed on my phone and reload the desktop page, and that works! Hope I helped 🙂
