Search not working in 3rd party clients

Solved!

Search not working in 3rd party clients

Hi, this is my first post here, so apologies in advance if anything is "stupid", obvious, or whatever. If this has already answered, I've haven't been able to find it.

I've been using Spotify Premium with 3rd party clients Clementine and Spotiamp/Spotiamb on Windows 7 without any problems so far. Since I few days ago the search function in both clients is broken, even when they're connected to Spotify. I can play music that is already in playlists (but not downloaded for offline listening, which isn't supported in those clients), but I can't find anything that isn't already in a playlist. It suddenly worked again when I tried yesterday afternoon (at least in Spotiamp), but this wasn't for long.

Strangely enough, when I search for something in the Web Player and click the play button there while Spotiamp is idle, that track gets played in Spotiamp instead. Does anyone else have this and/or know a solution? Thank you in advance for any hints.

Actually search method on Spotiamp/b is not completely broken. when I tried to search by a few letters and hitting enter it found the most similar result like the web or regular app does. For example I typed "Qu" and it suggests "Queen" when I hit the Tab. I think problem is on a getter/setter method on listing and showing the results on Spotiamp/b playlist window.

I agree with you about dead status of the Spotiamp/b, but let's hope they see this post and may have a quick fix for that issue.

The best solution I've found is using web search to refill the App's playlist whenever you want to search anything new. All the other options are working well at least for now (radio, playlists, etc.) (this is for version 0.2.0.6 - version 0.2.1.5 does not refresh the list when you search and play new songs from web player)

Thanks,

Like tmbse mentioned, I've the exactly same issue on my Spotiamp player. I think maybe this is caused by old lib used on these 3rd parties. I'm not quite sure but libspotify sdk might have been used on the Spotiamp. Support for libspotify will be ended on 2017, according to this.

I know this is not the right place to say, but it would be great if developers make the source code of the spotiamp open. So we can improve / maintain it.

Thanks, at least I know that I'm not the only one to have this problem. If this is the cause, which sounds plausible to me, I don't believe it will get ever fixed in Spotiamp/b, as it seems to be dead and abandoned. 😞 Clementine is another matter, it's open source and being actively developed.

Thanks,

Again, thanks for your suggestions. Creating playlists on in the official web application isn't a solution I'd be comfortable with. I use the other clients because I don't like the official web GUI and don't want to have to start a browser every time I want to use Spotify. (Spotify for Windows doesn't work anyway, won't even install on my system…)

With Clementine I can manage all my music (both from my harddisk,  Soundcloud, Spotify etc.) in one place, while Spotiamp has a tiny footprint, is fast and distraction-free. These advantages are basically moot when I have to go to the official Spotify website first to use them.

Fortunately, however, both clients are working again now. Whatever caused them not to work in the Spotify AFI must have been fixed in the meantime. 🙂 Let's hope it stays that way!
