Spotify Playback Problems

Spotify Playback Problems

So for months now, despite doing multiple rounds of troubleshooting, my desktop app won't play/work. Either it doesn't respond or it says "Spotify cannot play this right now. And the browser app isn't any better, it either starts the song and just repeats it or with a podcast will rapid fire skip through episodes and finally land on some random one from 3 years back.

At this point, despite loving Spotify and being a royal customer for years, I am considering cancelling my subscription because at this point, the only way I can list is with my phone.

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

 

We'll do our best to help you with these issues. Since you mentioned you can listen to music without problems on your phone, this could be related to your computer. In that sense, would you mind sending us the exact troubleshooting steps you've tried so far? That way, we can avoid repeating any steps. 

 

We'd suggest you try the following to see if you notice any changes in this behavior:

  • Perform a clean reinstall of the app. By doing that the app can be up-to-date and you can make sure the cache is not leading to this issue. You can find out the steps to do it here.
  • Clearing your host files. You can follow the steps in this article to do it.

If this behavior persists after that, we'd like to gather some additional info. Please send us:

  • The exact Spotify version you're running in your device.
  • Does this happen if you open your account in a different computer? You can ask for the computer of a relative or a friend to open your account and check.

So I have made the steps you asked and I cannot get spotify to work on any other of my devices except for my iPhone. It won't even play on my Windows App and it only, again, repeats the first 3 seconds of a song over and over on the web app.

 

At this point, I am at my wit's end and about to cancel my subscription because I am basically paying for nothing.  I have downloaded and installed the latest version of the Window app.

Just to make sure we cover all bases, could you double-check for any updates for your PC's operating system? It's worth checking for specific updates to your device's sounds drivers in this case as well. You can see the steps for Windows devices on this page

Should this issue persist, could you let us know if this happens at any specific points? For example, only when listening through speakers or headphones? And if so, are you connected through AUX cable or Bluetooth?

Your current Spotify app version would also be helpful. You can find it by following the steps here.
