My Question or Issue
Since upgrading to Windows 11, the Spotify app will no longer load. I get the error about the missing Resampledmo.DLL file. The problem is, I have that DLL file, and I know it is working in Windows, because I had to solve this problem with another app on my PC after upgrading. However, Spotify does not seem to recognize it.
I completed a clean install of Spotify, including deleting all files and folders in AppData, restarted my PC, uninstalled and reinstalled using both the stand alone installer and the Microsoft Store version of the app, with no change in behavior.
Is there any action I can take to resolve this?
Solved! Go to Solution.
hey, guys i had the same issue on windows 11! the same prblm the only thing that i changed b4 the issue is my dns (adguard public anti ads dns ...) , change it to default 1.1.1.1 the one used by router somehow seems to be fixing the problem
tl;dr: enable "Media Feature Pack"
Hello there,
I was facing the same problem, on my laptop (running Windows 11 - Educational N) Spotify is not running. While at home, running Windows 11 Pro, it works.
In my case the problem is tied to the "N" version of Windows, which doesn't ship the Media Feature Pack.
Fortunately, the fix is easy: from the start menu search "Optional feature", press the "View Features" button on the top right corner (beside the "Add an optional feature" label) and search for "Media Feature Pack", install it, and reboot.
Then you are good to go, the Spotify client works flawlessly.
Cheers,
Reda
Hey @itsgreylolol1,
Thanks for posting and welcome to the Community.
Keep in mind that as with all new operating systems, some unexpected behavior can occur in the early months of the OSs life-cycle, until developers work out the kinks.
That being said, do you have the option to test this out on another Windows 11 PC? This would help us determine is the reason for this behavior is due to the configuration on that specific device.
It would also be great if you could try both the standalone app from our website, as well as the one from the Microsoft Store and check if it comes up there as well. Also, does the web player function properly at your end?
Let us know how things work out, we'll keep an eye out for your reply.
I have exactly the same problem, both versions of the application do not work
I have tried both versions of the app as noted in my original post, neither work.
The web player works fine, just not the apps.
And I do not have another PC to test this on, but it seems (from my limited Googling research) that the Resampledmo.dll file is a media resource provided in older versions of Windows that is no longer included with Windows 11. As I mentioned in the OP, I was able to fix this for other programs by getting a copy of that DLL and registering it with Windows, but for some reason, Spotify doesn't recognize it.
I understand that Windows 11 is new, and there will be support issues at first, that's why I came to the forums. I didn't see anyone post with a similar issue, and it's obvious that I'm not the only one seeing these problems, so the best thing I can do is to give you as much info as possible and troubleshoot it so others don't have this problem in the future.
Hey folks!
Thanks for all the info you've sent so far.
Would you mind sending us a screenshot of the error message you're getting so we can take a closer look? Additionally, sending us a screen recording of the issue happening would come in handy. You can send a link to it or attach it using the Insert Video option in the post editor.
We'll be on the lookout.

Same for me. I do not have this option. I am on Windows 11.
Hi folks,
Thanks for your posts.
It would be best to turn to the support team from Microsoft to get further help with installing the media pack.
Cheers.
Recently "upgraded" to Windows 11 and now when I try to launch Spotify I get an error dialog: "The Spotify application is not responding."
Following the other suggestion in this thread, I too do not have a "Media Feature Pack" available to select in "Optional Features"
Edition Windows 11 Pro
Version 21H2
Installed on 10/22/2021
OS build 22000.282
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22000.318.0
I can not find Media Feature Pack on my win11~
Spotify still not work ><
all black after open Spotify~
People who can't find Media Feature Pack on Win 11 -> it's already installed.
Back to waiting for Spotify to fix app.
Not solution. I have Windows 11 and that pack installed and the same issue.
Hey everyone,
Thanks for the posts.
We've passed your feedback and troubleshooting on to the right teams at Spotify. We'd recommend turning to the support team from Microsoft for further assistance with this issue, as it is largely dependent on individual hardware configuration and media packs. This is not up to Spotify currently, so we can't say when this issue will be resolved.
Take care.
Hey there Spotify -
I actually work for MSFT and have a similar issue as reported in the thread. The Spotify App will not play music on my headset; however, every other application works fine. I've tested VLC, Windows Media Player, Chrome / Edge, Outlook, Teams, etc. Every other app (including the Spotify Web Player) works completely fine on Windows 11.
No error messages from Spotify. Let me know if there's some sort of logs I can provide to help you out - I'm technically capable 😉
OS: Windows 11 Enterprise
Version: 21H2
OS Build: 22000.348
Experience: Windows Feature Pack 1000.22000.348.0
Edit: Windows 11 Enterprise shouldn't have an impact on this either. While this is clearly a MSFT owned machine, I don't have any complicated proxy setups or net filtering. All traffic that's not destined for MSFT goes over the open net, not our VPN. There's no reason the app should struggle.
Hi again everyone,
we can confirm we've passed this on to the relevant folks here, but as we have not changed anything on our end, this seems to be some incompatibility issues with certain deployments of Windows 11.
What you can try is check if the Spotify app from the MS Store or the standalone version from our site make a difference. In addition to what Redauser suggested, trying different versions of your audio drivers could help as well.
Using our WebPlayer instead of the App would be an intermittent alternative that you can also check out.
It's also worth noting that a clean install of Windows 11, rather than an upgrade on top of another OS is always recommended to ensure the best results.
As Win 11 is still fairly young, there're some kinks to be worked out. We're sure that with future OS updates they will be resolved. On our end, we'll of course be optimizing the app for Windows 11 going forward and will be on the lookout for more reports on this.
i have this feature installed and Spotify is still not working.
Hi there @NewYork1122,
Thank you for your reply.
Can you let us know what troubleshooting you've done that's been provided in this thread so that we can help you in the best way?
We'll keep an eye out for your reply.
Take care!
I attempted to download the Media Feature Pack but it wasn't available. Where to from here?
