Spotify application is not responding

Spotify application is not responding

I was listening to the Spotify app when I wanted to play a song from a custom Spotify playlist. after clicking play on the playlist it froze my app completely. I closed it to try and remedy this issue. When i attempt to reopen the app it just gives me the error alert that "The Spotify application is not responding". I can still listen via web player but it is missing the lyrics option and just isn't as convenient to use

Hey @Madbadash

Are you using the x64 version (Spotify website) or the UWP version (Microsoft Store) of Spotify?

This issue happens to me sometimes. I will attempt to open Spotify and it will continuously give me the "Spotify application is not responding" error.

The easiest way to get around this error is to open Spotify and leave the error open. Open Task Manager (Control + Shift + Escape), and end the Spotify task.

Spotify should then reopen with no problem.

Your recommended solution did not work for me.

Hey @januaria81,

Thanks for joining the thread!

If Spotify still gets stuck for you, then I also recommend clearing the cache if you've not already done this, because when it's corrupted it can cause different performance issues. Just go to Settings > Storage > Clear cache.

However, if this doesn't make a difference, you can even give the app a clean reinstall with the steps here

Keep us posted 🙂

Hey @AGUS1975,

Thanks for reaching out!

Just to confirm, have you tried the steps mentioned by @Ivelina earlier in the thread? You can also have a look at the reply from @kaworu_bloodpaw, to see if you notice any difference following those steps.

Should the issue persist, can you let us know what device and OS version you're using? Also, are you experiencing the same behavior while using the Web Player?

Let us know how it goes.

After I restart the laptop spotify opens just fine then after a couple of minutes when I try to skip a song or restart it it justs freezes and says “spotify is not responding”.

you life saver thx

I am having the same problem. Ended task, cleared cache and even reinstalled and I'm still met with the same issue. I'm using the windows 11 application. What is wrong Spotify??

I am also having the problem with the desktop app freezing after a few minutes on Windows 11. I've tried clearing cache, disabling Hardware Acceleration, clean install, both the standard desktop app and the Microsoft store version. Typically, one song will play then it will stop and not respond to my input and I have to force close it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for joining the thread and for the provided details! It helps us investigate the situation.

If you've got a Premium subscription, could you test if the same thing happens in the app if you set it to Offline Mode and try to play downloaded content? If the issue doesn't persist with downloaded files, then this could indicate there's a connection issue. In this case, it's a good idea to check if Spotify behaves any different using another network such as mobile data shared via hotspot (if you've got the ability to test this) or restart your router.

Make sure to also exclude Spotify from your Firewall and Antivirus apps.

Additionally, you can also take a look at this article for steps on how to clear the host files on your computer.

Keep us posted.

Sorry for the late response. The issue cleared up as mysteriously as it occurred. So I guess that's a happy ending.

My Question or Issue

My Spotify freezes after pressing play on one song. If I close it and reopen it is says that the application is not responding. I have autoplay on and have reinstalled it multiple times. Only happens on my pc, phone woks fine.

You can also try reestaarting your computer or just reconnecting to the wifi and it might get fixed. Worked for me atleast.

It says "The Spotify application is not responding" idk what to do

That doesn't help, I listen to offline Spotify in my car cause it's on my second phone (and that phone doesn't have service) and it still has the same slowing and not responding issues.

Hi,

Pausing or too frequent skipping/rewinding/changing songs on the pc app crashes the app. I am forced to close it from task manager, if it hasn't completely crashed my PC. I've noticed this issue for about two years now.

My PC:

Microsoft Windows 10 Home

Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. B450 AORUS ELITE
AMD Ryzen 7 2700X Eight-Core Processor, 3700 Mhz, 8 Core(s), 16 Logical Processor(s)
16 GB Ram

Thank you for your time.

I am getting the same issue

Hey there @trumo,

Thanks for posting here and welcome.

Would you mind sharing with us the troubleshooting steps you've tried so far? If you haven't yet, we'd suggest you perform a clean reinstall of the app on the affected device. By doing that, the app can be up-to-date, and you can make sure the cache is not leading to this issue. You can find out the steps to do it here.

If the above doesn't do the trick, then we'd like to gather some additional info. Please send us:

  • The make/model and OS of the affected device.
  • The exact Spotify version you're running there.
  • A full description of the issue you've encountered.
  • Are you able to play content on the web player?

Keep us in the loop!
