Spotify can't play this right now

The windows spotify app will only let me play local files, if I switch the output device to digital audio instead of my headphones it works but I can't hear it, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling and nothing worked

I started having this same issue! Ever since the new update on windows! I've done all the same things and I can't get it to work, and support wouldn't give me answers. 😞 Seems to be a new bug.

Thanks for reaching out to the Spotify Community!

Make sure the sample rate of your audio device is set to anywhere between 44.1 kHz and 192 kHz. There's a detailed guide on how to do that here. It's also worth checking if the correct output device is set for the Spotify app.

Something else you can do is updating your sound drivers.

I tried both suggestions and neither worked.
My sample rate is set for the correct setting as suggested and my drivers
are up to date.
The Output works fine for other inputs (i.e. I can listen to MP3's and
Youtube) but Spotify just gives me the same message.
"You can't play this right now. If you have the file on your computer, you
can import it."

I tried downloading some songs to a playlist but they won't play either.

I have haing the same issue and i have tryed all these options and northing is helped. even a new windoes install with everything updated still no longer works.

should not have updates the app something is wrong with it
