Since 2 or 3 days I have a super annoying issue on Desktop App:
basically everytime I am typing in the search bar, the song paused.

It makes my user experience terrible.

Hey there @fedenrico,

Thanks for reaching out.

This is odd. Would you mind confirming if you've already gone through these steps for a clean reinstall of the app? This often solves cache related issues.

If that doesn't do the trick, could you send over the device's model and the Spotify version you're currently running, along with a video or a screen recording where we can take a better look at what's going on? You can attach it to your next response or upload it to another platform like YouTube or Google Drive and send a link to it. Make sure to hide any personal or sensitive information, and to give it the relevant permissions if you decide to upload it somewhere else.

Keep us posted.

I've come to the forums to report this bug as well. I'm using the desktop app on a Mac (macOS 15.3.1, the latest Sequoia release). What happens is when you start searching in the top Search box, after a couple characters typed in the app starts loading results, and this removes focus from the search bar. So whatever character(s) you type next goes to the playback controls, and if this is a space for example it will pause playback. It doesn't happen in every instance.

It seems it might happen only when the current main page is an artists page. Not positive, but I'm able to reproduce it reliably by first clicking on a followed Artist from my Library in the left sidebar, and then clicking the search box and starting to type. After 2 or 3 characters the focus switches. It doesn't seem to happen when a playlist, podcast, or other sort of item is selected in the left sidebar/shown in the main area.

Hope this helps to nail it down, it's really annoying! Thanks!

Just noticed the request for a video, here it is!

First showing that search works generally,

Then going to an Artist's page and trying search again. Before I can complete a word it switches away and starts loading results.

It doesn't happen for non-Artist pages.

Hey @sauceofchaos,

Welcome to the thread and thanks for sharing these details with us!

Sadly, we couldn't access the video so would you mind double-checking the access settings of the link?

Additionally, let us know if you've performed any troubleshooting steps so far such as the clean reinstall as suggested by @Novy here. The more info we have, the better for investigating this issue.

Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.

Sorry about that, I've updated the video permissions.

I have not reinstalled the app, I will try that but this seems like a bug to me. I performed an update recently from the profile menu.

I reinstalled the app (on a Mac), and same issue. And it does only appear to happen when searching while on an Artist page. Please check out the video and try to reproduce. Here's my app's About info, I'm on macOS Sequoia 15.3.1, Apple Macbook with an M3 Pro processor:

Spotify for macOS (Apple Silicon)
1.2.58.498.g6afe77b7

Just adding that this exact thing is happening to me on my Macbook, using spotify desktop, running Sequoia 15.3.1. I'll start typing in an artist name and before I finish typing the artist name, whatever suggested artist spotify things I want shows up and I have to re-click in the search bar to search the actual artist. This is *incredibly* annoying. I've noticed it the past three days.

Hey folks,

Thank you for your messages.

We appreciate all your reports. In order to continue investigating this further with the relevant teams, @jivetownjimmy it would be great if you could add to your next response the exact Spotify version you're currently running on your device. You can check how to see it here

We'll be waiting for your response.

Im getting the same.  its impossible to search for the next song because using the spacebar pauses the current song.

Hey hey the problem is fixed! Was about to write up the "workaround" which was a PITA, but decided to check if there was an update to the app first. I saw the little blue dot, updated, tested it out and lo-and-behold, the problem is gone. Here's my current version:

Spotify for macOS (Apple Silicon)
1.2.59.513.g9e00425b

Hey folks,

Thanks for your replies.

@sauceofchaos, great news! Give us a shout if it starts misbehaving again, we'll happy to help.

@B-Triggs, it looks like a new update fixed the issue for @sauceofchaos. In this case, would you mind trying to perform a clean reinstall of the app so you make sure your device's running the latest version? Let us know if it works for you too.

Cheers!
