Volume control not working

Solved!

Volume control not working

Since about a week ago, i've had constant problems with the volume settings on spotify - at first, the songs randomly went on max volume for a few seconds, and then came back to normal, but now the volume slider completely stopped working. I can move it, but the volume doesnt change, instead it's constantly on full volume. Sometimes the music keeps playing even when its set to volume off. I tried reinstalling the app, turning hardware accel both on and off, reloading the app, reseting and nothing is working. I am at a loss atp and the app is unusable, because not even windows volume controls work.

Hey there, @Yoroinashi,

Welcome to the Spotify Community!

Have you tried installing Spotify from a different source to see if that does the trick? if you downloaded the app from our website, try the version from the Microsoft Store instead and vice versa.

If you have several audio output devices connected to your PC, check if the correct one is set for Spotify. You'll find a detailed guide on how to do that here. In case the issue persists, try resetting the audio settings of your Windows to the defaults. Make sure your sound drivers are up to date as well.

Something else you can do is disable the communication settings, as well as Exclusive Mode and audio enhancements in Windows:

Spoiler
  1. Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound > Sound Control Panel, switch to the Communications tab and set "When Windows detects communications activity" to Do nothing.
  2. Head back to the Playback tab, then right-click your audio output device and select Properties. In the new window that pops up, switch to the Advanced tab and untick "Exclusive Mode" + "Enable audio enhancements".

Hope this helps! Let us know how it goes 👍

I have had spotify from both sources and it had no difference, but what helped in the end was disabling communication settings / exclusive mode / audio enhancements. Thank you so much!

My Question or Issue

For some reason the Spotify volume slider will not work despite moving it. Solutions I had attempted from previous board posts were the clean reinstall and to disable the communications and audio enhancements; however, they're not working for me.

I have an issue with the Spotify app on PC. When I try to change the volume with the slider, it doesn't do anything, and it keeps playing at max volume. Even if I put it to mute, it still plays at max volume, and when I open the Windows volume mixer and try to change the Spotify volume from there, it still does the same thing and doesn't change the volume. How can I fix this issue?

Same here, nothing works I don´t know what to do

Yeah.. it has been week or two on Spotify app on PC that I can't control volume of my streaming device.

Same here it's very annoying cause it's way too loud

sound is muffled and I'm not sure if its maybe cause my laptop is a bit old or just something wrong with the sound adjustability. The volume goes up form my computer but only if I turn it up all the way and its still not clear.

I have the same problem and I couldn't find a solution for a week. I had this problem before but I was able to solve it by formatting.

Hey folks,

Apologies for the radio silence here.

Are you still experiencing this issue? Can you please confirm you've tried the steps suggested by @Yordan? Additionally, you can try reinstalling your audio drivers and disabling any audio enhancing software you have on your device.

If the issue persists, please let us know your current OS and app version and send over a short video of the behavior.

@Hasan81, just FYI, we've removed your other thread to keep everything in one place.

We'll be on the lookout for your responses.

For me volume control started working when I controlled my streaming AV amplifier with iOS app and then switched control to Windows app.

I tried all your suggestions but the problem is still not fixed. I know that I can fix it by formatting but I don't want to format it.

Doing The steps in the solution marker "Spoiler" fixed the problem for me
