Windows desktop app is not syncing with Android app

Windows desktop app is not syncing with Android app

* PLEASE DO NOT MERGE (HIDE) THIS QUESTION AS A RESPONSE TO ANOTHER QUESTION WITH NO ACTIVITY OR SOLUTIONS AGAIN. I ACTUALLY WANT A CHANCE OF SOME RESPONSES/HELP. *

Albums showing as added on the Android app are not showing as added on the desktop app (Win10).

I think the Android app is most up-to-date because I am seeing the same thing on an Amazon tablet, so I think it must be an issue with the Windows dekstop app.

After searching this site, I followed the instructions to re-install both apps, and also deleted the Spotify cache data on Android.

None of the above has helped. Is there anything else I can try to get everything to sync please?

Hi there @splonds,

Thanks for reaching out. We'll be glad to help you get the library syncing properly again.

Firstly, I wanted to clarify a bit about our merging process. On the Community, we try to consolidate topics together so ideally we can have all discussion about a specific question in one thread. This both helps us keep track and stay on top of things but also helps the threads serve as a one stop resource for users having that same issue, allowing them to find all possible solutions in one place.

The thread where your previous post was merged contains many suggestions from us and we recommend you try them. If those didn't help, you can always reply to us with the info so we can look into it further. Nonetheless, if you prefer we continue this discussion here, that works too.

You mentioned that a reinstall didn't work, so consider trying the following:

  • Test what you see on the web player. It has the most direct sync and it would show us what the correct synced version of your library is.
  • If you're using any VPNs across your devices, disable those as they may be breaking the communication with the servers
  • Is it only albums that aren't syncing? What about playlists and liked songs?

Hope this clears things up. Let us know how it goes.

Hi Joan

Thank you for your reply and explanation. That's really useful to know about the web player having the most direct sync for future reference.

Today, without restarting or doing anything else since I posted my question, the desktop app is correctly showing the missing albums! So I'm assuming the reinstall must have eventually worked, but just took many hours to sync correctly.

I will continue to test this across Windows desktop, Android, and web to see if the desktop app regularly lags or loses sync altogether again.

Many thanks Joan

Hi @splonds,

Thanks for the reply.

Very happy to hear everything is working again. It's indeed most likely that the reinstall helped, but it's also possible this was some odd temporary hiccup in the sync between the various systems. In any case, if you want to force a sync on a device, try logging out and back in twice in a row. To clear out damaged cache and force a re-download of the content, a clean reinstall is the way to go.

If you happen to encounter further similar issues, don't hesitate to let us know so we can assist you further.

Cheers!
