desktop app won't play. No problem with phone or browser.

For some reason my app on my laptop has decided not to work. My phone app works and if I use the browser it works but not the app on my computer. I have uninstalled and reinstalled but still no go.

Hey there,

Thanks for reaching out via the Community and welcome!

As there can be different reasons for the app not to work properly, we need as many details as possible so we can decide what to suggest best.

It's great that you've already performed a reinstall, but just to be on the safe side, I recommend checking out the details here as they're for a more detailed clean reinstall.

Additionally, it's worth mentioning that on Windows you can download Spotify both from our website and from the Microsoft Store, so after the clean reinstall I recommend downloading the app version which you weren't using so far to test if there will be any difference.

Lastly, let us know if you're seeing any error messages for example and if you noticed when this behavior started.

We'll be on the lookout for your response 🙂

I've tried doing this twice now and am getting the same message, "Spotify can't play this right now.  If you have the file on your computer, you can import it."  Getting that message no matter what i try playing.  Been doing it all this week.

Hey @tiffanyds

Thanks for letting us know!

We did some research and it seems that this error can occur when Spotify cannot resolve an output device.

To solve this issue, you can try to connect a different output source (e.g. a speaker) to the device that Spotify is then playing on. You will need to set the output device for Spotify specifically in the Audio settings in Windows to then use the normal output source. After that, it should work, and the other device can again be disconnected or disabled.

Tip: To find the Sound settings, right click on the speaker in your taskbar and click here:

Scroll down and select Advanced sound options:

Hope this helps! We'll be on the lookout for your reply 🙂

Hi!

I struggled with this for a few weeks but finally managed to figure out what was wrong.

Click in the bottom right corner on realtek hd audio manager or something similar if you havemawgan_1-1734779443652.png

Right click and open the sound manager.

Something like this should appear or similar:

Find the default format or where the frequency settings are and set the frequency to the 44100 Hz shown on the screen.

Should work, any other frequency don't work with Spotify.

Other place where you can find this

Righ click on the spearek, -> sounds
