Hello @cvnash,
Thanks for reaching out. This and all other options can be controlled from the Spotify Connect device list. There you can select which device to play from and which device controls the playback. More information can be found here.
Hope this clears things up.
This answer doesn't adress the question. The question is the following: How do I set Spotify to ALWAYS play from the current device, instead of defaulting to the previously played device?
I agree that it's a big annoyance to manually have to switch to the device that you are currently listening on every time you've used Spotify previously on another device.
If this specific setting exists, please show us where.
Still not solved 2024-06-19 and Spotify doesn't want to answer the question. Most likely this is a case of "it's a feature, not a bug".
it's so stupid
why someone developed it this way??

Still not solved 2024-12-13 and the question remains unanswered.
yeah spotify what's up? just add a toggle 'always play on current device'. daily annoyance. Imagine a world where it just always works the way you want to.
As a user, if I click play, I expect music to start playing on the device I clicked play, in order to listen to music.
man click button, man expect sound.
A bit kooky, but I think it would be cool if spotify had a setting where instead of defaulting to your last used device, spotify just played music on the device you pressed play on like every other program on the planet does.
Just a thought.
Neat concept, it's saved me a button press a total of one times in exchange for adding a button press literally every other time I wanted to play music. I venture to guess that the people that only listen to music on one device are not the type of people that are desperate to save that one button press, it's kind of backwards design and I'm being nice.
Why has this not been implemented yet? If I start music on my phone, I want it to play from my phone, and music started on my PC on my PC. I don't want to play music from my PC on my phone, or vice versa.
Why the **bleep** hasn't this been implemented yet? It's 20925 for god's sake. All the other music players can do it, why not Spotify?
Seriously.
EDIT: they bleep our the word h e l l. LOL. Snowflakes. It's not a swear word.
