My Question or Issue

After experiencing extreme lagging, I decided to try to have fewer local files. I made a new folder SPOTIFY in my musicv library where I put the files that aren't available on Spotify. I toggled off the music library in "Show songs from" and instead ticked the Spotify folder on. This reduced the number of local files from close to 40k to just a few hundered. And it seems to be helping with the lagging.

However, anytime I restart the app, the Music Library option is toggled on again, and Spotify begins to load the 40k local files. How can I make it not toggle itself on? Or is there another fix for this issue? Appreciate any feedback, thanks 🙂

Hey there @11120515984,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

In this case, we'd suggest you try the following to see if you notice any changes in this behavior:

  • Make sure the app is up-to-date. You can check for possible new version updates in the three dot menu that you can find on the left-top of your screen in the desktop app. There, select Help> About Spotify. If there’s a new version available, you’ll see a button “restart to install”.
  • Clear the cache of the app. You can follow these steps to do it.
  • Move the folder to a different location. We'd suggest you move it out of the Windows Music folder (if it's there).

If the above doesn't do the trick, we'd like to gather some additional info. Please send us:

  • The exact Spotify version you're running in your device.
  • A video recording of what's happening on your side. You can attach the video in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and make it public, so we can visualize it.

Keep us in the loop!
