why does spotify pause playing on laptop when plugging in power?

why does spotify pause playing on laptop when plugging in power?

I have a persistent issue on windows. When changing powersource from battery to plug in (charging), spotify on windows installed on a laptop stops playing. Whether the window is open or closed, the music will pause. The window remains open, and play has to be clicked again for the music to resume. This is persistent and annoying, as when moving around between working spots and changing power sources, you don't want music to stop. The pausing behaviour also happens when using an aftermarket powersource (USB C 120w charger). When an additional device is charger through the powersource, or a device is taken off, spotify will again pause playing. Please do address this issue.

Hi and welcome to the Community!

In order to investigate this odd behavior with Spotify on your laptop, could you let us know if you've tried any troubleshooting steps so far and if you noticed when it initially started?

On Windows, it's possible to download the app both from our website and from the MS store, so as a starting point I recommend deleting the current version you're using with the steps from the clean reinstall article and then downloading Spotify again (the version you weren't using until this moment). With the clean reinstall steps you'll also get rid of any corrupted cache files which may be causing performance issues.

Additionally, please check on you laptop if any setting such as low power mode is automatically enabled when you plug in the charger as this is very likely to be causing Spotify to pause. If that's the case, disable the setting to test if it'll make any difference.

Thanks and keep us posted on how it goes 🙂
