[All Platforms] Add a "Play this album next"-option

Currently when adding an entire album to the queue, the album is added after the song that is currently playing or respectively at the end of the queue. So if I want to queue an album after the album that is currently playing has ended, I would have to add both albums to the queue.

As a user I would like to add an album to the queue that is played once the current album has ended. It could be an entry inside the context menu that says "Play this album next".

I have seen this behaviour on other services in the past and I think it would be a great addition to the feature catalogue of your fantastic music service.

Keep up the good work!

The core of what I want is that when you queue an album with an album already playing it gets added after the album that is currently playing. Instead it gets added to a separate "Next in queue" list which plays after the current track. Thus the order of played tracks is: current track from album 1 -> all tracks from album 2 -> the rest of tracks from album 1. What I want is: current track from album 1 -> the rest of tracks from album 1 -> all tracks from album 2.

When you play an album all tracks after the first are added to a list named "Next from <album name>". My idea is that if you remove the "next from album" concept and instead clear the queue and then add all tracks from the album to the queue I would get the desired behavior.

I cannot fathom why anyone would want the current behavior. It has endlessly frustrated me - to the point where I'm taking time out of my day to write this when I do not have the spare time to do so, and where I'll be switching streaming platforms if you don't address it.

Incase you are against this b/c it involves clearing the queue - I see no reason to keep items in the queue when starting a new album; if I wanted a permanent list of songs I would use a playlist.

See the attached picture for an illustration of the issue.

Keep in mind that in the meantime, you can do this manually by adding the Album 1 to the queue and then adding Album 2, this way they will play in the desired order.

Sounds good, thank you.

I'm aware of the work around you mentioned, but I find that I usually don't know what I want to listen to next in advance. Most of the time I want to queue the next album as I'm wrapping up the current one. I listen most while working and what I want to listen to changes depending on how my day goes (task, mood, etc). Thanks for the info anyhow.

Seconding this idea so much. I don't understand the need to split the queue into "Up Next" and the "normal" queue. I listen to full albums, but I can't queue my next album before I'm done with this one. It's just a strange UI experience.

1.pngI've switched to YTM in the meantime. The queue is simple and straightforward. I start off with a single (that only has one song), queue another single (that has more than one song), then queue an album. As I was listening to Shinigami, I decided I want to listen to it a few more times, so I click on "Play Next". If I want to listen to it later, I click on "Add to Queue", which will send the song to the bottom of the queue. Simple and fuss-free.

Now that I'm listening to Deserts Xuan's album, I can browse around for what to listen to next, and add it to queue. It'll simply appear at the end of the queue after Deserts' album.

For all the annoying quirks that YTM may have, at least the queue is not convoluted like it is on Spotify. Please implement this idea!!

This needs to apply to playlists and podcasts, too. I've had a problem, with this, recently, involving 2 playlists.

TL;DR: toggle in settings for putting current album before queue.

I personally use music apps for listening to consecutive albums, if I'm listening to an album with no queue, to queue another album to play afterwards, I would need to first queue the current album and remove songs that have already played, and the rest from the bit after the queue.

To avoid new 'play next' and 'add to queue' buttons in other apps (the functionality of neither currently exists in Spotify) and cluttering the UI or confusing existing users, I'm simply suggesting a toggle in the settings for having the queue play after the current album.

I listen to music in playlists like most people, but I also listen to albums while doing long tasks or driving. As of right now, there is no way for me to queue several albums one after the other. When hitting add to queue on an album page while already listening to an album, it puts the whole album I just clicked on in the middle of the queue after the current song. I would love the option to add an album to play after the current album, an album queue if you will. This way the album I'm listening to doesn't get interjected by 30-45 minutes of a different album then resume afterward. It also saves the work of making a playlist of albums that needs to be reordered regularly to keep it fresh.
