Public or private notes on songs/albums/artists/playlists.

It would be awesome if you could create private notes for songs/artists/albums/playlists etc. For me personally, I get a lot of song recommendations from the soundtracks of tv episodes that I watch. It's hard to keep track of what song I know from what show and I think it would be a cool feature. People could make notes on songs that played on their first date with their significant other, on music that was in the background of certain events and so on. It would create a whole other level to music listening on Spotify as each song you have a note on would remind you of something. Could help with people who have dementia, memory loss or any memory-based problem to remember certain songs. In your library there could be a section dedicated to what songs have notes on them as well for easy access. You could also choose between private and public notes to create recommendations for your friends to see or for your eyes only. Notes as a concept is a great idea. On platforms like Instagram and Tiktok, a note is a status update. On Spotify, it could be so much more. Please think about it.

It would be nice to be able to add notes to individual songs or albums. This might give an even more personal feel to Spotify. So far the only similar feature is naming playlists, which is very limited.

Use cases:

  • write down who recommended the song or album or where one has heard it first
  • Link to other sources related with the track or album
  • Link to other songs or albums related to this one
  • Note specific specialties to the song or album
  • If notes were searchable then songs/albums could also be found this way
  • Especially interesting for music students

Notes should not be permanently displayed to not mess up the clean UI experience, but should be displayed by the click of a button or keyboard shortcut.

lets say you have created a playlist. and you want to share it with your friends. but you also have some things to say about the songs like "ooh listen carefully to the drop at 5:35!" so you add them as a separate bubble, and you can see the small note. written by the maker of the playlist.

I would like to propose an exciting and innovative feature that could greatly enhance the Spotify experience for users around the world. A feature, maybe called “Memories,” allows users to attach personal notes or pictures to their favorite songs. It’s an engaging way to create a deeper emotional connection with music and share the stories behind the songs that matter most. Feature Overview: “Memories” is a feature designed to foster a stronger connection between Spotify users and their favorite songs. With this feature, users can add short notes or images to songs in their playlists, providing a personal touch and allowing them to capture the memories associated with the music. These personal notes can range from descriptions like “Mom’s favorite song” or “Had my first kiss to this,” to pictures of special moments related to the song. Key Benefits: 1. Emotional Engagement: Users can reminisce about the memories and emotions tied to specific songs, making the Spotify experience more personal and meaningful. 2. Storytelling: “Personal Song Memories” encourages users to tell the stories behind their favorite songs, creating a unique narrative that can be shared with friends and family. 3. Memory Preservation: This feature is a digital memory box, preserving significant life events and experiences through music. 4. Community Building: Users can share their personal notes and images with their friends on Spotify, strengthening connections and generating discussions around the music they love. How It Works: • Users simply click on a song in their playlist. • An option to add a note or picture appears, allowing users to input a personal description or upload an image. • These personal notes and images are stored and displayed alongside the song in the playlist, accessible to the user and shareable with friends. Why Spotify Needs This: Spotify has revolutionized the way we consume music. “Personal Song Memories” takes this a step further by allowing users to not only listen to music but also become part of its story. This feature adds an emotional layer to the streaming experience, fostering user loyalty and enhancing their connection to the platform. Thanks for letting the community submit these!

Want wanting this very thing, after listening to a new song ... and found out someone already put in the effort to explain the feature and a high-level outline on how to accomplish it! Kudos to you, Dvill2121, we salute you!

I like this suggestion. I would like to note on individual songs what tv shows they are from because I keep forgetting and have to google it every time. And they are not attached to the TV music album, they are normal songs that appear in the tv show so nothing about the song denotes what show I heard it on.
