Deaths in Music 2017

This thread is for keeping track of artists who have died this year. Sadly, it starts off with John Wetton. Here's an obituary from Rolling Stone: Asia Co-Founder, King Crimson Member John Wetton Dead at 67. As a lead singer and co-founder of the band that got me into progressive rock, Wetton remained a prominent figure in music for me. He was normally the lead singer and bass player in the bands he was in.

Although King Crimson is not on Spotify, here is a song he did with them:

He was a co-founder of U.K., along with Eddie Jobson, Bill Bruford, and Allan Holdsworth.

He was a co-founder of Asia, along with Geoff Downes, Steve Howe, and Carl Palmer.

Here's a recent album he recorded when he was dying from cancer:

Geoff Nicholls was another rock musician to lose his life this year, and with Black Sabbath also playing their (reportedly) last show today, I think Sabbath is all too fitting here.

Peter Sarstedt died on the 8th of January 2017. He was 75 years old.

Allan Holdsworth (* 6. August 1946 in Bradford, Yorkshire; โ€  15. April 2017 in Vista, California), former member of Gong, Soft Machine and U.K. died surprisingly at the age of 70. I will remember him as one of the most innovative and musical players of all time. His Legato-technique influenced many famous guitarists, for an example Joe Satriani, and his music introduced me to an unknown world of altered chords and daring improvisations. Rest in peace, Allan

Sylvia Moy, Motown Records' first female songwriter, died April 15 at age 78. If you don't know her name, but you know Motown music, you know the songs she helped write. I've put a few on this playlist.

Chris Cornell (1964-2017), lead singer of the legendary Grunge-band "Soundgarden" and known to a wider audience because of the Hit "Black Hole Sun" and the title track for the Bond-movie "Casino Royale died surprisingly at the age of 52 on 17th May 2017. He was one of the best Rock-singers from the 90s and maybe the only legitimate inheritor of the Robert Plant Style. I also want to remember on the wonderful "Temple of the dog", a band founded by Cornell, which only existed one year.

He suffered from Hepatitis C and died because of complications from liver cancer after a liver transplantation in 2012.
