Spotify Hifi

Spotify Hifi

Hello. I am a long time Spotify user and I have become quite frustrated, but there is still no high-quality audio. I hear rumours that are high audio plan may be coming but at a higher price and that is also frustrating because everybody else is doing it for free. I want to stick with Spotify, but they’re frustrating me because the audio quality is terrible in comparison to the other services, if the higher audio quality plan doesn’t come soon, I’m going to have to think about switching to another service even though I prefer Spotify because of all their other features I wish someone could just give me some kind of indication as to if and when hi-fi is coming, thank you. Also it’s also a bit frustrating that Spotify is focussing so much on audiobooks even though providing higher audio quality should be the priority as Spotify are already losing lots of customers because of that Spotify is giving everyone everything except for the main thing everyone wants.

I totally agree, if this improvement in audio quality doesn't arrive I will be forced to change service, it's absurd that the level is so low compared to competitors

Same here, long time user now in family plan.

I have just upgraded my music setup, and spotify sounds terrible compared to loseless solutions.

I have read rumours but not a word from spotify. Which make me consider leaving the service in the next two month without any perspective. Even if I should have preferred stays here, quality now is a blocker.

I just have to agree with the views here.  I have signed up for a three months free trial but already, on day three of the trial, I am finding the sound quality so bad that I am really not enjoying the music through Spotify. This is real shame as there are so many features that I really like, not least of which is that I can play music through my existing equipment via the renderer that is built into Moode Audio.  Sadly I will have to return to my previous music streaming provider quite soon because they offer streaming at 16bit 44.1 Khz, CD quality, or better at no extra charge.

Bonjour,

Your expectations about this "perfect" quality are a bit deluded.

If you are on free spotify the sound quality is already degraded.  That is expected since its free.

If you are on a paid version the sound quality should be as the distributor sent it, so sound quality is going to vary album to album, song to song.  If it is just unbearable make sure if you're on the iPhone the Equalizer is active and if on android make sure in your preferences you pick for the streaming quality Very High, make sure data save enabler and normalize volume are off as well.

Hope this helps.

A condition

"If you are on a paid version the sound quality should be as the distributor sent it,"

I don't think this is correct.  As I understand it, the artist or distributor is required to send music to Spotify  in a lossless format, FLAC or WAV files.  Spotify then use the lossy Ogg codec to compress the files so that they can be streamed at a maximum of 320 kbps. Streaming lossless CD quality  FLAC files requires a bitrate of about 900 kbps or better.

Totally agree.

It's been exactly a year since your comment and they've still done nothing about it. I honestly don't care if I have to pay a little extra for Loseless music but if they don't at least announce anything by 2025 I might just have to switch to Apple music. Loseless with dolby atmos and 4K music videos from Apple Music are also way beyond the audiobook schtick Spotify is currently trying to push.

They have everything ready to roll the feature out, so what's the hold-up?

I know. The CEO finally came out and said they are working on HI-FI but it’s ’early Days’ To me that reads ‘a year minimum’ - losing patience fast guys. Apple Music has been solid so far since I tried it. Will probably take more time for the recommendations to get better.

Yea I had thought about Tidal before myself. Do you mind if I ask what is it about the platform you don’t like? I also thought about YouTube but they don’t have any plans to roll out lossless. Amazon user interface is sub par and Apple Music playback and voice controls can be flaky and seize up

Tidal is very good, but I listen to HIFI music on a Marantz system, and to be able to listen to Tidal, I must necessarily use HEOS.
Many times I can't find my playlist, or it plays the first song and tells me that it can't find the server.
With Spoty, it works great, but I would like to have a HIFI option, with Master quality. A year ago, the CEO of Spoty announced it, but after that announcement we have total silence. They should inform us how their development is going and when it will be available.

Jut make it happen finally!

this is far overdue

Totally agree with you. We need lossless audio. Spotify is first and foremost a MUSIC service!
