Who is/was your favorite drummer or percussionist?

Are there any drummers or percussionists in the music you've listened to, for whom you especially appreciate their musical style? If so, feel free to share!

For me, one band for which I’m often drawn to the drumming is My Sleeping Karma. I’d say that I usually find myself focusing on electric guitars in music—but when listening to My Sleeping Karma, I often focus on the drums, as I find the rhythms in their music to be complex and dynamic, with lots of compelling syncopations.

Sadly, My Sleeping Karma’s drummer, Steffen Weigand, died last year; but I still appreciate his playing, and would probably consider him to be my favorite drummer.

I absolutely LOVE Jimi Hendrix.

I agree that the guitar solo in “Purple Haze” is amazing—it's probably my favorite part of the song! As with the melodies during the solo, I also really like the guitar tone, and was reading that Hendrix used an Octavia effects unit for the solo to create this unique sound.

I like to listen to Jimi Hendrix sometimes as well, and my favorite guitar solo of his just might be from this live version of “Voodoo Child (Slight Return)”:

And to return to the theme of the thread regarding drummers/percussionists, I also think that Mitch Mitchell was an amazing drummer, and that this is certainly evident on Jimi Hendrix songs like “Purple Haze”; would you agree?
