Issues with playing tunes outside of Liked Songs or playlists on the desktop app

Hey there,

We're aware of issues with playing songs outside of the Liked Songs collection or playlists.

This is being investigated.

Hi folks,

A few days have passed, so the latest version which includes the fix should now be available to everyone! You'll find more info on how to update the app in this article.

Once again thank you all for the collective effort in aiding us during the investigation. You're awesome!

Cheers!

Thanks for the reply.

Spotify for Windows
1.1.90.859.gf1bb1e36

As far as I know it auto updates on launch every time, but I can try a clean install.

Sure, keep us in the loop.

it did not work.  I'm still getting the problem.  For example all of the song listed on Dom & Roland's profile under 'Popular' (expanded 10 song list) will not play except for 2; Cant Punish Me -2007 and A Broken Heart.

I just noticed that I cannot play anything from the Artist page unless I add the songs to a playlist.  then they will finally play from the artist page.  I tried it with all 10 songs (the 2 I mentioned before were the only ones in my playlist).  I went back to the list of 10 songs after adding them to a playlist and now all 10 will play.

Seems like a bug to me.   It seems it just wont play anything from artist pages unless the songs are in one of my playlists.  It did not used to do this.

Thanks for replying back. Can I ask if you are using any VPN or DNS service?

I also suggest one more thing you can try

  1. Go to Spotify.com and log into your account
  2. Then head over to your account info section here
  3. Scroll down and click on Sign Out Everywhere
  4. Log into your Desktop App again and check if the issue still persists

Hope that solves the problem, keep us updated.

Hello,

i think i got the same Problem. My Spotify Windows 10 Desktop-App can't built a connection to the Internet.

Im not using VPN or DNS.

Its not blocked by my firewall.

I already did a clean reinstall.

I also turned off the windows defender for a short time. Did not help.

Weird things:

Webbrowser is working via LAN.

When i start my wifi it works and sometimes when i turn it off again it still works.

At the moment the only thing shoing up is an error:

"Irgendwas ist schief gelaufen. Versuche, die Seite neu zu laden."

-> try to reload. What wont help.

I also signed out everywhere. I get the same Error. I think the app cant notice without connection.

I hope you can help me 🙂

im having the exact same problem as this guy @ashleybrian50 except this has been going on for around 5 months. Whenever I play a song that is not in my playlist, the song will not play. There is no album cover or even sign that I wanted to play that song. The second I put that song into a playlist though, the song will play no worries. This is a pain in the ass discovering music as I cannot just simply click and play a song. I have to chuck it into a playlist and then see if it's bad or not. The desktop app for spotify is always broken and no other version have an issue with this not even the web player on the same computer.

For me it was the Mcafee VPN. When it was enabled all the issues you’re describing pop up. When I disable the VPN it works perfectly fine. Now I’m working with Mcafee to figure this out.

Thanks!   Its working for me now.

Hello there, sorry for the delay to respond. Evrything works fine for now, so I couldn't try the manipulations suggested by Yordan, except disabling VPN. Maybe this is the reason it works now, but last time it works only for a few days so I will see if it turns bad again and let you know.

To be more precise, I called the Spotify support and they made me open a "test session" on my laptop, and I had the same problems with this session than on my own session. This is what made me think that the problem could come from my laptop.
If the problems come back, I will try to open my session on others laptops with others OS and let you know.

Thank you again for the time you give to solve my issues, it is really nice of you and much appreciated 🙂

Hey folks,

Thank you for keeping in contact.

@ashleybrian50, we're glad to know that everything is working fine after disabling the virtual VPN of your antivirus. We appreciate the time you took following the process and sharing what works for you. Hopefully, this tip will fix the issue for other users too.

In case any of you still has this issue after disabling the VPN, include in your next response (if you haven't done it yet) the make, model and OS version of the device involved, along with the Spotify version you're currently running.

We'll be on the lookout.
