I just got a new ROKU 3. I am a premium Spotify customer but I see the following message every time I try to login via the ROKU:
As recommended, I have checked my settings but every other channel (including ones that require login like MLB.TV, Netflix and Amazon Cloud) all stream perfectly over Wi-Fi. So far, Spotify is the only one to do this.
Any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks.

Well, I guess it was worth a shot, but no joy here. Same error as before. Sigh.
I recently tried to log in again and it seems to be working. I'm hoping this means the problem is permently fixed.
That's great to hear. Wish I could say the same. Still gives me the same error nonsense here (code 8.4). Guess I'll keep trying.
An update to this issue.
I decided to go on the live chat with the ROKU support and the assistant, Deepa, solved this log in issue finally, so I recommend trying this. Wish I'd gone that route sooner!
We changed the DNS entries in our wireless router to:
Primary DNS Address - 208.67.222.222, Secondary DNS Address - 208.67.220.220
Then, after a reboot of the ROKU 3 box, I was able to login to my Spotify account via ROKU 3.
I posted this in the ROKU forums to help people there. Apparently, these DNS addresses can be used by anyone.
Thanks, Deepa!
While I appreciate you posted how you resolved this problem, I think this solution is unacceptable. I don't understand why it's necessary to change DNS servers on my router and I think Roku needs to resolve this issue without that being the only way to fix this ridiculous issue.
If anyone has any other way to fix this, please enlighten. Thanks.
Hi, can you confirm whether or not we can log in on Roku, using a standard account? (not premium)
I have received a device password via eamil from Spotify but it doesnt seemt to work, error code is similar, reads (code 6.4).
Thanks!

You need a premium subscription to use partner hardware devices. FAQ here for Roku.
I agree w/ jinbins. There's no reason why a change in DNS should fix this problem, unless spotify is looking for some secret host that only that DNS knows how to find (in which case...WHY?!). If the roku is connected and all other apps work fine, DNS is, in general, working fine.
I'd be unwilling to change from ISP-provided DNS to some DNS service I'm not familiar with. Spotify is not that important.
So...any other suggestions?
....And after a few months of it working. I'm once again back with the same problem. Nothing on my network has changed and I once again can not log in.
Ugh I can't believe this STILL hasn't been resolved?? Seriously? I'm so disappointed.
I'm getting the same error message (8.4) and have exhausted all of the previous mentioned fixes. Roku or Spotify need to solve this issue asap. Not being able to use this paid service is not acceptable.
I was experiencing the same problem as listed here, but had recently changed my Spotify password. I had Spotify setup on this home network on Roku 3 a long time ago just fine, so I immediately suspected the password. I changed it to something without special characters and I was able to log in just fine. I'm not sure if that's actually what fixed it, but it's worth a shot.
Thanks for the suggestion, Digital_cowboy. Sadly My password has not been changed recently and does not contain any special charectors either.
As an update: I have now been in touch multiple times with Roku support. Every time I send them an email they repeat the exact same thing and I have to start all over with them. Spotify support has responded to me saying that they do not develop or maintain this channel on the Roku. Roku claims I should contact the vendor (Spofity) for support.
Can I please get some confirmation as to which entity actaully devlops and maintains this channel?
Just started having this issue a few days ago. Factory reset and deleting the app does not fix it. Anyother sugestions?
I can vouch that this is still an issue. This thread is disappointing. The problem has existed for over 2 years. And I am unwilling to change the DNS host name just to play Spotify. Pass.
Are you effin kidding me...change router settings?!
Welp, this is definitely happening to us 😕 lame. Was looking forward to streaming my music through the TV
