Connect still Works from afar

Connect still Works from afar

Hi.

A friend used his own Spotify Accounts to connect to my Nocs2-NS2v2-speakers as well while connected to the same WiFi at my place.

A day later he played music from his account from a different device in a different city, nowhere near my place and my speakers are blasting at full volume.

Is this an Android-Problem (the client he used) a Nocs2-Problem (the speakers he connected to) or a spotify problem (is there a way to "lock in" my account or to disable others connecting to the same device?).

Anyone having the same problems?  Any idea from the mods/spotify-guys on how to remedy this?

Best regards, Martin.

Hi there welcome to the community,

Spotify Connect is currently account wide. This means that it can be accessed from outside your own network. Strangers are unable to control your devices as it is limited to your own Spotify Account.

This makes it possible to connect to your device without having to open ports, add exceptions to firewalls and more.

Hi Jordi.

Thanks for the reply.

As much as I see the benefit of this, the concept of "your own devices" is a bit strange, when anyone connected to my wifi network can make my speakers "his devices". I thought this of a common usecase to have people over and having them take care of the music by Spotify-Connect-ing to my speakers.

It wasn't even meant as a prank by him -- he too was wondering, where his playback went and turned up the volume to locate the device (not finding it in my kitchen half a country away...).

Does anyone have a solution to this?  Will the speakers be mine (and mine only) if I Spotify-Connect them again and how can I "lock" this in?

Best regards, Martin.
