Devialet Maina stopped playing intermittently while using Spotify Connect

This happen recently. When my Mania plays via Spotify Connect, the audio will stop for a few second until it continue, the app itself is still showing the song is playing, but the speaker gives no music. This issue seems similar to the one in Samsung TVs one

Thanks for reaching out. Could you please provide us the following:

  • Is the Devialet device the only affected one? Do other Connect devices have such issues?
  • Does it matter what device is actually controlling the playback?
  • When did this start happening?
  • Does it happen with any kind of content?

With this information, we’d be happy to investigate.

Hi Joan, to reply your question: 

- I only have Devialet that could use Spotify Connect so I do not know whether other devices have this issue

- No it does not matter, I tried using my iPhone, my iPad, my PC, all with the same issue

- Around a month ago, but since I had not been using my Mania for a while so I cannot tell how long exactly that had happened. 

- No, I tried my existing playlist, new created playlist by Spotify, all the same.

To add up on top of my reply, I have actually previously report this issue to Devialet, coz I thought this was my Mania problem. It took me some time to generate a bug report that is clean - after resetting my Mania a few times, to isolate the issue for them to look into it.

 

After sending my log report to their support team, this was their reply:

 

According to the software/technical team, the last bug report finally showed some errors that would be related to the drops you are experiencing. The problem is that, as suspected before, it is not linked to anything with the Mania but the errors are related to slow Spotify servers. Unfortunately, the Spotify servers are not under our control, so there is nothing we can do here. Thus, please use Airplay instead.

Whist I have no idea how accurate their description is, and I am not able to retrieve the bug report as it was sent to Devialet directly, indeed, this problem only happen with Spotify Connect, Airplay was fine.

Thanks for the detailed response!

 

Could you try using a different network connection, if you don't have one at your disposal you can start a Hotspot from your mobile device and connect through there. 

Also it's worth restarting your WIFI router and testing the connection again.

Hi Martin, yes, I tried using different network, and it's still the same. I also tried restarting my wifi router, also does not solve the problem. Both mehtod had been suggested by Devialet already.

Hello Team Spotify,

 

I just bought a new Devialet Mania (maybe 2-3 weeks ago) and am experiencing exactly the same issue. There are unpredictably intermittent stoppages in play of a second or two when using Spotify Connect. Frequent enough to be annoying - sometimes almost every song pauses. The issue has been there from the first day and continues to persist.

 

Here's some info to help:

  • I have an iPhone 13 mini
  • ⁠I have a high speed 300Mbps connection so that’s not a problem
  • I have a high speed 5Ghz wifi router and Spotify is all that’s streaming or even accessing the internet at 6am in the morning so that’s not a problem
  • I updated the Devialet firmware to the latest version one day after purchasing so that's not a problem (issue existed before and after the upgrade)
  • Everything works fine if simply connect the Devialet via bluetooth to the iPhone (no intermittent stoppages) but this is not preferred as sound quality suffers a bit (due to bluetooth)
  • Playback continues to work fine over bluetooth even if my phone is streaming Spotify via an unreliable 3G/4G connection so pretty sure bandwidth is not the problem
  • One observation - idk if it is relevant: The Spotify app on the iphone loses sync with the speaker. Basically what happens is the mobile app gets stuck on one song somewhere in the middle of the playlist while the speaker continues on. Controlling play/pause/fwd/rev on the playback controls of the Spotify app on the iphone does nothing. The way to restore sync is to scroll through the playlist and click on a song and have that start playing on the speaker. However, this is temporary. Sync will be lost again after some time. This last point is only provided as an fyi in case it helps. The real issue is the intermittent playback stoppage. That is a killer.
