Disable automatic playing when wired headphones connected

How do I stop the app automatically starting music when I connect wired headphones? It did this and scared the absolute bejesus out of me as I had previously had the volume set to max for a different wired connection, and was wearing said headphones.

The auto-resume functionality isn't completely dependent on Spotify, so we can't guarantee an idea about it would get implemented.

Different smartphone models handle the auto-resume of music in different ways when connecting the headphones (either wired or Bluetooth), and a lot of it depends on the individual device's firmware.

The best way to guarantee your device doesn't switch to music playback from Spotify is to ensure that Spotify is completely closed and isn't loaded in the background when you plug in the headphones. If music starts automatically even when Spotify has been closed completely, let us know and we'll see what we can suggest.
