[Discover Weekly] choosing non-english release of english songs

[Discover Weekly] choosing non-english release of english songs

My Question or Issue

Several times the songs choosen for my Discover Weekly (DW) are the non-english release from an english release. It looks like most of them are the Japanese release version.
I don't mind getting geting non-english songs in my DW, but I would prefer to always get the either native release (if it's not english) or the english release (if there's several) so I at least know what song/album I'm listening to. Now I have to search for an song based on the album cover and the song length.

Hey @Alfakr0ll, help's here.

As you may know, Discover Weekly is customized based on your listening experience. It sounds like you're listening to music that has both Japanese and English versions, thus providing you with recommendations for both languages. There's unfortunately not much that can be done from our side if there's a mix-up, or if you get recommendations of songs in the other language. It's up to the labels and artists which languages their titles should be in. We can assure you that Spotify does its best to provide you with music that fits your taste, so if you want to change something with your Discover Weekly, you should keep listening to what you like and it will eventually adjust.

Hope that helps 🙂

Hi
First and foremost, I assume the non-english release I'm suggested is in japanese. If I'm wrong I'm sorry.

Thanks for your reply. However it seems like there's problem with how the Spotify Client (or the server) is choosing what version to show a certain user. If i press on the japanese(?) song while playing in the down-left side it will send me to the english album for that song.

As an example my DW has recommende TesseracT - Dystopia. However they chosen the one from this version:
https://open.spotify.com/album/5lgHTDwYJ9KaK9uho6iDpV?si=u70eRLIyQ5meocnqHeY31g

Instead of choosing the one from the release available my region.
https://open.spotify.com/album/7aFuNkjumeRht9zAwLW7Mw?si=1aldrkeYRy2seCZ1Wl8bLA

For those that don't know the band. It's an English band. So theres no reason for Spotify DW to recommend an japanese region release for me.

There's no way for me to find the japanese album when searching, even when I'm copy pasting the japanese text into the search field. The only way for me to find the album is by the album link for that song in DW. It seems that Spotify occationally thinks I'm a japanese user and then select the japanese relese for some songs. Everywhere else I'm routed to the release available in my region (if there is any) but not always in the DW.

And as I said in my previous post. I don't mind non-english songs that are of my preferred genre. I get a lot of finnish metal songs in my DW. I don't understand any finnish however they give me the release that are available in my region.

As far I can see I have never been suggested an japanese song from a japanese artist. So the DW doesn't think that japanese music is for me. Just japanese region releases.

Edit: I can see that the web player of spotify translate the song names for the japanese release (note the japanese album name text for the first link).  The Spotify Client doesn't do that.

Hey there @Alfakr0ll,

Thanks for clarifying this.

It looks like the two albums you're sharing are different releases from the same band. Discover Weekly's algorithm is based on what you and those with similar music tastes listen to. It's possible, that if you've listened to songs from the English version in the past, Discover Weekly is suggesting other releases by the same band, even if they are in a different language.

In any case, we'd recommend making sure giving your feedback by choosing image.png to the songs you see on your Discover Weekly playlist so that it becomes better in the future.

We'll be happy to help if you have further questions.

Have a lovely day!
