My Question or Issue

If I only listen to a few seconds of a song will this song appear on my followers' friend activity?

Hi @Mikeflou,

Thanks for posting in the Spotify Community, and welcome!

You need to listen to a song for at least 30 seconds (with the setting “Share my listening activity on Spotify” switched on, and Private Session switched off), in order for the song to be shared in your followers’ Friend Activity feeds.

If you listen to a song for less than 30 seconds, it won’t appear in your followers’ Friend Activity feeds.

Let me know if you have any other questions, and have a good day!

Thank you very much for your reply. I only listened for a couple of seconds, the weird thing is that it did appear under my recently played songs. Is this a complettely different thing or does it mean that the song would have appeared in the friend activity feed as well?

yes it should.

thank you but i had that one lol.

Intersting, but then isn't the friend activity feed always one song behind so if I open spotify and only listen to the first two seconds of a song whould that song appear instantly on the friend activity feed?

Hi @Mikeflou,

Thank you for your replies!

I can confirm that "Recently played" on the desktop app behaves independently from how songs are broadcast on Friend Activity.

It’s expected that “Recently played” on the desktop app will show songs that you’ve played for any amount of time. In contrast, it’s necessary to have listened to a song for at least 30 seconds for it to show up in “Recently played” on the mobile app.

Also, note that the time that it takes for the app to display songs in “Recently played” may vary depending on the device, and this time can be shorter on the desktop app than on the mobile app.

If you’ve opened Spotify and listened to a song for just 2 seconds, your followers’ Friend Activity feeds will only display new info when you change the song for the next one (showing the last track that you listened to for at least 30 seconds).

Let me know if you have any other questions, and have a good day!
