Inconsistent Behavior of Spotify Widgets on Android (Samsung Galaxy Phones (S23))

Inconsistent Behavior of Spotify Widgets on Android (Samsung Galaxy Phones (S23))

Subject : Inconsistent Behavior of Spotify Widgets on Android (Samsung Galaxy Phones (S23))

Dear Spotify Support Team,

I am writing to report a recurring issue I have encountered with Spotify widgets on my Samsung Galaxy S23. While the widgets function as expected on Apple devices, their behavior on Android is inconsistent and unreliable.

Specifically, I have observed that both the larger and smaller Spotify widgets frequently disappear after completely closing the Spotify app or restarting the device. This necessitates manually re-adding the widget each time, which is inconvenient and disruptive to the user experience.

I kindly request that Spotify investigate and address this issue to ensure that Spotify widgets on Android consistently maintain their functionality and provide a seamless user experience, comparable to that offered on Apple devices.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

Pooya Mohammadhossein

Hey there @pooyair,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

We hope you don't mind us moving your post out of the ideas section to one of our Help boards as it fits better here.

That being said, we could not replicate the behavior you kindly described. In that sense, we’d like to gather some additional info. Please send us:

  • The exact Spotify version you’re running on your device.
  • We'd like to know if it's always behaved like that or if this behavior started after a specific event/update.
  • A video recording of this behavior, so we can have a closer look. You can attach the video in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and make it public, so we can visualize it.

We value every piece of feedback you share with us; but our Ideas board is to help us receive new product and feature suggestions that will allow us to improve our app and service for everyone. If you want to report an issue, you should always do so here in our help boards.

Keep us in the loop!

Hi,

  • The exact Spotify version you’re running on your device:
  • Always imidiately updated to the most recent latest Spotify Version available on Google Play Store for (S23 Galaxy phone) so in brief the latest version

  • We'd like to know if it's always behaved like that or if this behavior started after a specific event/update.
  • As last time I have checked the answer is yes always (at most recent tests)

Please let me know if you have other Questions or Concerns. Thanks in advance,

Kindest and Warmest Regards,

an Engineer,

Zero.

Hey @pooyair,

Thanks for the info!

Since we weren't able to replicate this on our end, it'd be really helpful if you can make a screen recording of the issue and send it to us as @AlejaR already mentioned. This way we can have a closer look and try to figure out what's causing this. If the file is too large to attach, you can upload it to Google Drive (make sure to allow general access to the file) or as an unlisted YouTube video.

It's also worth making sure Spotify is excluded from any battery optimization apps - go to your phone's Settings -> Battery and device care -> click on Battery and then on Battery usage limits -> add Spotify to Never auto sleeping apps.

Keep us posted.
